BJMP strengthens support for local farmers through DAR-ARBO marketing agreement
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) MIMAROPA strengthened its support for local farmers and food security initiatives after joining the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs) in the signing of a marketing agreement under the Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (PAHP) Program on May 20.
The agreement signing and “Kumustahan Session” were held at the Audio Visual Room of Mindoro State University (MinSU) Calapan Campus in Barangay Masipit here.
The partnership underscores BJMP’s continuing commitment to community-based development by providing a stable institutional market for agricultural products sourced from agrarian reform beneficiaries while supporting the food requirements of district jails in Oriental Mindoro.
In a press statement on Monday, BJMP MIMAROPA spokesperson JO3 Joefrie Anglo said the initiative reflects the bureau’s sustained efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and empower local farming communities through inclusive and sustainable programs.
The activity was attended by representatives from DAR MIMAROPA, DAR Oriental Mindoro Provincial Office, BJMP Regional Office, district jail wardens in Oriental Mindoro, and various ARBOs.
According to Anglo, the partnership is expected to provide ARBOs with a reliable and continuous market for their agricultural produce while ensuring the availability of fresh and locally sourced food supplies for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in district jails.
Assistant Regional Director for Administration Jail Senior Superintendent Mirasol Vitor emphasized the significance of the agreement in strengthening both local agriculture and community welfare.
“This agreement is not just a contract — it is a covenant. As long as you produce, the BJMP will remain a steady market for our local farmers. Together, we build a bridge from farm fields to jail tables, growing the MIMAROPA economy and feeding our communities with dignity,” Vitor said during the opening ceremony.
BJMP MIMAROPA said the initiative forms part of the bureau’s broader commitment to supporting government programs that address hunger and poverty while promoting livelihood opportunities and stronger collaboration with grassroots communities.
The PAHP Program is a national government initiative that links farmers’ organizations and agrarian reform beneficiaries with institutional buyers to improve market access, agricultural productivity, and food security. | via ADN News
