The City Government of Batangas, through the Office of the City Health Officer - Nutrition Division celebrated National Breastfeeding Month with a symposium with the theme โBreastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Worksโ last August 20, 2026, at the OCVAS Training Center, Brgy. Bolbok, Batangas City.
City Health Officer II, Dr. Rose A. Barrion, expressed her gratitude to everyone who attended and participated in the activity. She also emphasized their important role in promoting, protecting, and supporting breastfeeding practices in Batangas City, as well as in ensuring that mothers and families receive the necessary information and support throughout their breastfeeding journey.
City Nutrition Action Officer / Nutrition Officer IV, Mrs. Eva V. Mercado, introduced the 2026 Breastfeeding Month theme and discussed the breastfeeding situation in the Philippines. She also emphasized the importance of strengthening breastfeeding counselling and education to help mothers, families, and community to understand the significant health and nutritional benefits of breastfeeding.
She also highlighted the various legal mandates that protect, promote, and support breastfeeding, including Executive Order No. 51 or the National Code of Marketing of Breast milk Substitutes, Republic Act No. 11148 or the โKalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Actโ, Republic Act No. 10028 or the Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009, and other relevant policies and regulations supporting breastfeeding.
Nutrition Officer I, Ms. Dheza Bianca E. Aclan, presented her presentation entitled โNanay magkaagapay, Pamilyaโy Healthy Buhay!โ which she shared valuable tips and information on breastfeeding, offering practical advice on techniques, positions, and nutrition to ensure a positive experience for both mothers and their babies.
The activity was also made more meaningful through the valuable support and active participation of the Mother Support Group of different barangays in Batangas City, who shared their experiences, encouragement, and practical knowledge to help breastfeeding mothers overcome challenges and continue their breastfeeding journey, recognizing their significant contribution to promoting infant health and nutrition.
The attendees also took part in the Pledge of Commitment for the Mother Support Group, reaffirming their commitment to providing support and promoting breastfeeding within their communities.
