Christmas is not about grand celebrations. It’s about the real happiness seen on the faces of our beloved children, simple food, exchanging of gifts, and joyful moments by the river.

The celebration opened with a colorful parade, where everyone proudly wore their ethnic attire and danced to the beat of the gongs—a vibrant display of unity, pride, and cultural identity.
Dandanac Elementary School joyfully celebrated Indigenous Peoples (IPED) Day to honor and preserve our rich cultural heritage and community traditions.
Uncle Gabriel and Miss Ghiesel Canipas shared stories and insights about the history of the community, helping the learners appreciate their roots and identity.
Hands-on cultural demonstrations added depth to the celebration:
• Uncle Gabriel and Sir Ibayan taught the boys how to properly wear the wanes (G-string).
• Auntie Annie Tilagen and Lola Aliban Carbonel guided the girls on how to wear the tapis and bakget.
• This was followed by a competition where learners showcased their skill and confidence in dressing themselves in traditional attire.
Exciting indigenous games such as Pakpakingking, Sack Race, and Sanggol were actively enjoyed by learners from Kindergarten to Grade 6. Even teachers joined the fun through a friendly round of Musical Chair Dance (Trip to Jerusalem).
Participants also experienced traditional massage practices, including:
• Gisgisto – head massage for relaxation and stress relief
• Kulkulis – foot massage using sticks for acupressure
• Kumkumay – palm massage
• Tadtad – back massage technique
The event concluded with the School Head Rose G. Songaben expressing her heartfelt appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the celebration. The day was truly a meaningful tribute to the culture, wisdom, and traditions of the Indigenous Peoples community.
