PBBM highlighted this milestone and the broader efforts of Philippine scientific institutions in addressing the plastic waste challenge during the International High-Level Forum on NUTEC PLASTICS held last November 25โ€“26, 2025, at Conrad Hotel Manila.

During the forum, DOST-ITDI also showcased its innovative recycling technologies and engaged with both local and international delegates, many of whom are actively seeking solutions that support a more circular economy. The forum served as a launchpad for NUTEC PLASTIC, an ongoing initiative of the United Nationsโ€™ International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The event gathered key figures, including DOST Secretary Dr. Renato Solidum Jr., DOST Undersecretary for R&D Dr. Leah Buendia, IAEA Director General Mariano Grossi, ADB President Masato Kanda, and DFA Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro.

In a parallel event, the PREx prototype house at PNRI in Quezon City was officially inaugurated. As the centerpiece of the NUTEC PLASTIC initiative, it stands as a tangible demonstration of how science, technology, and strong collaboration can produce impactful solutions to environmental challenges.
