PBBM highlighted this milestone and the broader efforts of Philippine scientific institutions in addressing the plastic waste challenge during the International High-Level Forum on NUTEC PLASTICS held last November 25โ26, 2025, at Conrad Hotel Manila.
During the forum, DOST-ITDI also showcased its innovative recycling technologies and engaged with both local and international delegates, many of whom are actively seeking solutions that support a more circular economy. The forum served as a launchpad for NUTEC PLASTIC, an ongoing initiative of the United Nationsโ International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The event gathered key figures, including DOST Secretary Dr. Renato Solidum Jr., DOST Undersecretary for R&D Dr. Leah Buendia, IAEA Director General Mariano Grossi, ADB President Masato Kanda, and DFA Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro.
In a parallel event, the PREx prototype house at PNRI in Quezon City was officially inaugurated. As the centerpiece of the NUTEC PLASTIC initiative, it stands as a tangible demonstration of how science, technology, and strong collaboration can produce impactful solutions to environmental challenges.
