Every spoonful counts. At around 6 months, your baby begins complementary feedingโthe stage recommended from 6 months to 2 yearsโwhen breast milk alone is no longer enough to meet growing nutritional needs.
This period is a critical window not only to prevent malnutrition and stunting, but also to support immune development and reduce the risk of food allergies through the timely introduction of diverse foods, including common allergens (CDC, 2024; WHO, 2019). Early appropriate exposure helps the body learn to tolerate these foods rather than react to them. ๐ฑ
๐ถ๐ป Ready to explore food?
Your baby may be ready if they can sit with support, control their head, show curiosity about food, and try to grab what you're eating.
๐ฝ๏ธ Start simple, grow gradually:
โข Begin with smooth purees at 6 months
โข Progress to mashed and lumpy foods by 8โ10 months
โข Introduce finger foods by 9โ12 months
โข By 12 months, babies can eat the same textured family foods
โข Continue breastfeeding alongside solid foods
๐ก Feed with care:
โ๏ธ Offer meals at the right time and frequency
โ๏ธ Keep food clean and safe
โ๏ธ Be patient and responsive to your babyโs cues
โ๏ธ Encourage, donโt force
โ ๏ธ Small bites, big safety: introduce new foods one at a time, including common allergens at the appropriate age to promote tolerance.
Nourishing your baby today builds a healthier, stronger tomorrow. ๐โจ
