GUNMAN IN BACOLOD FATAL ATTACK NABBED AFTER HOT PURSUIT

The Philippine National Police, under the command of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., arrested the alleged gunman in a fatal gun attack in Bacolod City on September 1, 2026, after police immediately pursued the suspect following the killing in Purok St. Vincent, Barangay Alijis.

The suspect, alias “Budoy,” 37, male, and a resident of Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City, was apprehended by personnel of Police Station 7, Bacolod City Police Office, in Barangay Tangub following a sustained hot pursuit operation.

Initial investigation showed that the incident allegedly stemmed from a heated argument between the suspect and the victim. The suspect allegedly went to his residence, obtained an unidentified fi***rm, returned to the area, and fired several shots at the victim, resulting in the victim’s instantaneous death. The suspect then fled the scene.

Police Station 7 immediately deployed responding personnel to the area to verify the incident and conduct the initial investigation. A hot pursuit operation was launched to locate the fleeing gunman, while the station coordinated with the Bacolod Forensic Unit for crime scene processing and forensic examination.

The police search led to the suspect’s apprehension later that day at Gardenville Subdivision. He is currently under the custody of Police Station 7 for proper disposition and the filing of appropriate charges.

“A violent act that takes a person’s life demands a firm and immediate law enforcement response. We will pursue every legitimate lead and make sure that those responsible are brought before the law,” PGEN Nartatez said.

“Hindi dapat makatakas ang sinumang responsable sa pagkitil ng buhay. Sa tulong ng ating mga kababayan, mas mabilis nating natutukoy at nahuhuli ang mga gumagawa ng krimen,” he added.

The apprehension reflects Enhanced Managing Police Operations under the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly the PNP’s commitment to a prompt and sustained response against serious crimes and threats to public safety.

PNP STATEMENT ON THE SANDIGANBAYAN ORDER FOR THE RELEASE OF SEC. MANUEL “MANNY” BONOAN

The Philippine National Police (PNP) acknowledges the Resolution issued by the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division on September 3, 2026, ordering the release of former Secretary Manuel “Manny” Bonoan from detention.

The order follows the Court’s earlier grant of the prosecution’s motion to file amended Informations, which excluded Sec. Bonoan as an accused in the cases. As a consequence, the Court recalled the Commitment Orders previously issued against him.

The PNP respects the authority of the Sandiganbayan to evaluate the evidence and circumstances presented before it and to issue appropriate rulings based on the merits of the cases.

In keeping with its mandate and respect for judicial processes, the PNP will faithfully comply with the Court’s order. Accordingly, the PNP Health Service General Hospital has been directed to facilitate the release of Sec. Bonoan, unless he is being detained for other lawful reason, as stated in the Court’s order.

The PNP remains committed to upholding the rule of law and faithfully carrying out lawful orders of the courts.

CIDG CAPTURES IN MAGUINDANAO A NATIONAL MWP WITH REWARD OVER MURDER CASE IN ISABELA

On September 2, 2026 at around 6:40 PM, the CIDG Isabela Provincial Field Unit, together with the Provincial Intelligence Team Isabela, and other PNP joint units conducted a manhunt operation in Brgy. Nuro Poblacion, Upi, Maguindanao Del Norte that resulted in the arrest of a national level fugitive by virtue of Warrant of Arrest for Murder issued by Ilagan, Isabela court on August 28, 2026, with no recommended bail.

According to a report submitted to CIDG Director PMGEN Robert Alexander A. Morico II, the apprehended individual—a male of legal age—is classified as a National Most Wanted Person with a PhP 50,000.00 monetary reward for Murder under a Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum Circular.

As a backgrounder, on August 24, 1989, while four victims were passing in front of the
residence of the accused at Barangay Bagutari, Sto. Tomas, Isabela, the accused allegedly opened fire upon them with the use of a fi***rm, resulting in their instantaneous death. Allegedly the suspect harbored a long-standing personal grudge against the victims over land dispute. Immediately thereafter, the suspect fled Isabela province and went into hiding in different places until he reached Maguindanao del Norte in order to evade arrest.

The CIDG leadership commends PCOL Rodrigo B. Soriano, Regional Chief of the CIDG Regional Field Unit 2, and the CIDG Isabela Provincial Field Unit led by PLTCOL Rex G. Pascua, and the joint operating units for the highly coordinated intelligence-driven capture. The tracker team trailed the fugitive from Isabela Province all the way to Maguindanao del Norte. This long-distance operation highlights the CIDG’s unwavering resolve to locate and apprehend wanted individuals across the country, providing long-awaited justice to the victim's family.

CIDG ARRESTS 850, SEIZES 118 LOOSE FI****MS, AND CONFISCATES ₱798.9M IN EVIDENCE FOR AUGUST

In compliance with the focused program thrust of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) intensified its nationwide manhunt operations against fugitives and cracked down on all forms of criminality.

CIDG Director, PMGEN Robert AA Morico II, announced that for the month of August, the Unit conducted 769 law enforcement operations. These operations resulted in the arrest of 850 suspects, wanted persons, and fugitives; the confiscation of 118 loose fi***rms, 19 explosives, 50 assorted magazines, and 1,008 rounds of live am******on; and the seizure of ₱798,968,213.94 worth of evidence.

OPLAN PAGTUGIS & SALIKOP: Manhunt operations targeting wanted persons, fugitives, communist terrorist groups (CTGs), and criminal gangs, these operations yielded 526 personalities. This total includes one National Most Wanted Person with a reward, 62 Regional, 110 Provincial, 68 City/Municipal Most Wanted Persons, and 285 Ordinary Wanted Persons. Additionally, eight CTG members and two criminal gang members were apprehended.

OPLAN PAGLALANSAG OMEGA (Campaign Against Loose Fi****ms) For violations of Republic Act No. 10591 (Comprehensive Fi****ms and Am******on Regulation Act), the Group implemented 41 search warrants and conducted 40 buy-bust operations. This led to the confiscation of 118 fi***rms—consisting of six light weapons and 112 small arms—as well as the recovery of 19 explosives.

Other Law Enforcement Activities (OPLAN OLEA). Operations targeting illicit, counterfeit, smuggled, and substandard goods—including food seasoning, cooking oil, imported canned goods, automotive batteries, vapes, footwear, petroleum products, ci******es, and to***co. This also covered enforcement operations against environmental violations like illegal logging and mining. The monthlong operations resulted in the seizure of ₱798,968,213.94 worth of evidence.

Demonstrating its expanded operational scope, the Unit dismantled a major document fraud ring by arresting a suspect running a passport and LTO license mill. Simultaneously, the CIDG neutralized predatory networks by apprehending illegal recruiters in close coordination with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

To protect consumers and uphold agricultural standards, the Unit also joined forces with the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) to confiscate heavily mishandled, unregistered, and unaccredited meat products from public markets.

The CIDG leadership highly commends the dedication of the Unit’s men and women, emphasizing that this monthlong achievement reflects the group's unyielding fight against criminality. By removing instruments of violence from the streets and locking up high-value fugitives, the Unit significantly advanced the PNP's crime prevention capabilities.

CTG WAR MATERIALS RECOVERED; GUNS, AM******ON AND R***E GRENADES UNEARTHED IN CAGAYAN

The Philippine National Police, under the command of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., has strengthened security efforts in Cagayan following the recovery of fi***rms, am******on, r***e gr***des, communication equipment, and other war materials believed to be owned by the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) during an operation in the mountainous portion of Barangay Niug Norte, Sto. Niño, Cagayan on August 31, 2026.

Leading the operation was the 202nd Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 2, with support from the 4th Maneuver Platoon of the 1st Cagayan Provincial Mobile Force Company, Regional Intelligence Unit 2, Sto. Niño Police Station, and Bravo Company, 17th Infantry Battalion, 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army.

Operating personnel discovered the cache at Sitio Talor, where the war materials had been buried underground and concealed inside a black plastic bag. Recovered were two homemade 12-gauge sh****ns, 85 rounds of 5.56mm am******on, 32 rounds of 7.62mm am******on, four r***e gr***des with canisters, four rounds of 7.62x33mm carbine am******on, three rounds of 12-gauge am******on, and magazines for 5.56mm and 7.62mm fi***rms.

Also recovered were two handheld radios, a black skeleton bandolier, a brown tactical belt, an improvised engine-generator set, a Samsung 10,000mAh power bank, chargers and electrical wires, a tickler containing subversive documents, an earphone, batteries, and a cellphone charger.

The location of the cache was identified through information provided by a surrendered CTG member using the alias “Ronron.” The information was subjected to validation by operating personnel before the recovery operation was carried out.

The recovered r***e gr***des and other explosive items will be turned over to the Regional EOD and Canine Unit 2 for appropriate handling, while the two homemade sh****ns will be submitted to the Regional Forensic Unit 2 for examination. The remaining items were brought to the 202nd MC, RMFB2 for final inventory and proper disposition.

The recovery highlights the value of intelligence-driven police operations and the close partnership between the PNP and the Philippine Army in preventing armed groups from regaining access to fi***rms, am******on, and other operational resources.

The PNP Focused Agenda provides a framework for transformation aimed at strengthening police operations and delivering a more responsive police service. This accomplishment reflects the priority of Enhanced Managing Police Operations, particularly in using validated information to locate and secure materials that could pose a threat to public safety.

FI***RM REPORT LEADS PNP TO 5 SUSPECTED ACETYLENE GANG MEMBERS

Five men allegedly linked to the so-called “Acetylene Gang” were arrested after police responding to information about a man reportedly carrying a fi***rm in General Trias City, Cavite, discovered a cache of weapons, suspected ma*****na, a hand gr***de, and equipment believed to be used in forcibly opening secured containers.

The suspects, aged 33 to 57, were intercepted late evening of August 29 along CM Delos Reyes Avenue, Barangay Biclatan. What initially began as a police response to a report involving a person allegedly armed in the area led to the discovery of other items inside the vehicle where the suspects were found.

Police recovered a 9mm pistol with am******on from one of the suspects, as well as a .38 revolver, a 12-gauge sh***un, additional am******on, a hand gr***de, and around 9.77 grams of suspected ma*****na. Acetylene equipment and other paraphernalia allegedly used to forcibly open vaults and other secured containers were also recovered.

Initial investigation indicated that the five men may be connected to the so-called “Acetylene Gang,” which is being linked to robbery incidents in different parts of Luzon and the Visayas. Their identities, backgrounds, and possible involvement in specific incidents remain subject to verification and further investigation.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the development highlights how alert police response to seemingly isolated reports can uncover wider security concerns.

“Sometimes, what looks like an ordinary report is actually a piece of a bigger picture. Kaya mahalaga ang mabilis na response, tamang validation, at maayos na coordination. We cannot afford to ignore details that may help us prevent a bigger problem,” PGen Nartatez said.

The recovered fi***rms and am******on will undergo ballistic examination, while the suspected ma*****na will be subjected to chemical analysis. The recovered hand gr***de will likewise be handled by the appropriate explosives unit for proper disposition.

The operation is part of the PNP’s continuing efforts under its Focus Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which emphasizes timely response, information-driven policing, and coordinated action against threats to public safety. It also supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s broader call for safer communities through effective and accountable law enforcement.

PNP CYBER PATROL LEADS TO ARREST, SEIZURE OF 400 REGISTERED SIM CARDS IN BULACAN

A proactive cyber patrol operation by the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG) led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man and the recovery of 400 registered Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards allegedly being offered for sale online in Obando, Bulacan.

The operation was conducted by the Bulacan Provincial Cyber Response Team on August 24, 2026, following the monitoring of online activities involving the sale of registered SIM cards and other accounts through social media platforms. The suspect, identified only as alias “Junel,” was arrested during an entrapment operation after allegedly offering registered SIM cards for sale online.

The recovered SIM cards will undergo appropriate examination and further investigation to determine their source, registration details, and possible links to other unlawful activities. The suspect is facing charges for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 11934, or the SIM Registration Act of 2022, in relation to Republic Act No. 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. He remains under police custody following inquest proceedings.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. emphasized that responsible use of digital platforms is an important part of keeping communities safe, particularly as more transactions and communications move online.

“Online spaces should not become a place where identities can simply be bought and sold. We will continue to watch for activities that put other people at risk, while making sure that every operation follows the law and respects the rights of those involved. Ang mahalaga, maingat ang ating mga hakbang at malinaw ang ating pananagutan,” Police General Nartatez said.

The operation reflects the PNP's continuing efforts to strengthen its capabilities against emerging forms of online-related offenses under the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, through timely monitoring, coordination, and lawful police action.
