Camalig welcomes work immersion students from Tsukuba and Bicol University; student immersion program concludes

On Monday, August 31, 2026, the Japan-Philippines Student Immersion Program between Tsukuba University and Bicol University came to a close at the APAO-Coop Building in AFVille, Cabangan, Camalig, Albay, highlighting local hospitality and innovations on agriculture and renewable energy.

The event officially commenced with an opening address delivered by Municipal Tourism Officer Jed Villanueva, who attended on behalf of Local Chief Executive Hon. Carlos “Caloy” Irwin G. Baldo Jr.

In his address, Villanueva underscored the critical role of strategic partnerships between the municipal government and academic institutions in fostering meaningful cross-cultural exchanges. He noted that these collaborations not only enrich the experiences of visiting students but also strengthen the community's global connections and local tourism initiatives.

Mr. Daryl John O. Buenconsejo, the Officer-in-Charge Provincial Agriculturist, served as one of the key resource speakers who introduced the students to the comprehensive agricultural programs and facilities of the Albay Provincial Agricultural Office (APAO), which include the Bee Farm, Dairy Barn, and Pili and Cacao Processing.

As part of the student immersion program, the students from Tsukuba University and Bicol University took part in a guided tour on the said facilities to witness APAO’s agricultural innovations. The tour showcased APAO’s local agriculture and its role in biodiversity; demonstrated regional livestock management practices; and introduced the students to Bicol’s signature high-value agricultural crops and value-added production.

The successful and comprehensive immersion program highlights a shared commitment among academic institutions, local government units (LGUs), and private sectors to prepare youths with hands-on skills and practical knowledge essential for sustainable farming and environmental care.

Camalig trains child, youth leaders on disaster preparedness, life-saving skills

To equip the youth with essential skills during emergencies, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Camalig conducted a two-day Disaster Preparedness Training for Children and Youth Representatives on August 29–30 at the Camalig Command Center in Brgy. Salugan.

Organized through the initiative of Barangay Children Officers and Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) Officers, in partnership with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the capacity-building event focused on fostering community resilience starting from the younger demographic.

Resource speakers from key municipal departments facilitated a series of interactive and comprehensive lectures. Ms. Cristie Mae M. Mojeno, Nurse II, from the Municipal Health Office (MHO) led the discussions on Dengue Prevention alongside hands-on Life-Saving CPR Techniques. Meanwhile, MDRRMO Chief Rommel Negrete Jr. PhD, JD, D. Hum, tackled Child-Centered Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and the implementation of Child-Friendly Early Warning Systems. Complementing these technical modules, Ms. April Joy Sabdao and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer (MSWDO) Ms. Edlyn Noble, RSW, highlighted Child Protection in Emergencies and the setup of Child-Friendly Spaces within evacuation facilities.

The training culminated in a practical application segment featuring a simultaneous simulation exercise, CPR return-demonstrations, and a decampment drill tailored for volcanic hazard scenarios involving Mt. Mayon. During the synthesis phase, young participants took the floor to share their key takeaways and reflections, demonstrating heightened awareness and readiness to respond to localized emergencies.

Formally closing the activity, Ms. Edlyn Noble expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the participants, BCO members, organizers, and partner offices for their active involvement and commitment to safeguarding children during crises. She emphasized the crucial role of empowered youth leaders in strengthening local disaster response mechanisms and ensuring safer, more resilient communities.

Camalig hosts joint anti-illegal drug and police operations oversight meeting

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, the Local Government Unit of Camalig (LGU-Camalig) hosted the Philippine National Police-V’s (PNP-V) 13th Joint City/Municipal Oversight Committee on Enhanced Managing Police Operations (E-MPO) and Anti-Illegal Drugs (AIDS) Meeting at the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Session Hall, 2nd Floor, Camalig Municipal Bldg.

The meeting brought together law enforcement commanders from across the province, along with Camalig Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Maria Ahrdail "Ding” Baldo, Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) President Hon. Glen Naparam, and representatives from the business sectors and financial institutions in Camalig, including the On Due Hotel, Mama Nang’s Restaurant, and Wyndale Hotel.

During her address, Vice Mayor Baldo emphasized the critical role of strong operational alignment between local government units (LGUs) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to ensure the sustainable peace, security, and economic stability of Albay's communities.

The operational proceedings of the meeting were guided by provincial police chiefs, purposely to reinforce tactical coordination, evaluate regional safety, and synchronize anti-crime operations under the national government's flagship brand: "Bagong Pilipinas."

Key evaluations and operational summaries presented during the meeting include: updates on the S.M.A.R.T. Albay program; peace and order assessments and updates; progress tracking on the PATNUBAY Ligtas Maharlika Project and the establishment of Motorist Assistance Centers/Border Control Points (MACs/BCPs); and review of agenda by the Albay Provincial Police Office (PPO) Quad Staff.

With the presence of LGU-Camalig municipal officials and chiefs of police (COPs) and officers-in-charge (OICs) across Albay, the conference underlined a unified stance against illegal drugs and criminal activities. In attendance–verbally and physically–were COPs, OICs, commanders, and representatives from police stations in Legazpi, Tabaco, Ligao, Daraga, Polangui, Guinobatan, Camalig, Oas, Libon, Tiwi, Malilipot, Bacacay, Sto. Domingo, Rapu-Rapu, Manito, Malinao, Camalig, Jovellar, and Pioduran, alongside tactical units from the 1st and 2nd Albay Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC).

In observance of National Family Planning Month 2026, the Department of Health (DOH) Bicol Center for Health Development (CHD), under the leadership of Assistant Regional Director Dr. Joel H. Buenaventura, MPH, alongside the Provincial Health Office (PHO) headed by OIC Provincial Health Officer Dr. Karl Hegel Ante, and the local Family Planning Office, in collaboration with the Municipal Health Office (MHO), gathered participants from various parts of Albay for an interactive community talk show centered on promoting responsible parenthood and safe health practices on Friday, August 28, at the 2nd floor of the MYTALIC Building, Camalig Municipal Hall.

Carrying the campaign theme "Ang S.M.A.R.T. na Pamilya, Panalo! Tara! Usap Tayo sa Family Planning," the initiative aimed to normalize open conversations on reproductive health and provide accessible health information to Bicolano families.

The celebration featured a dynamic talk show focusing on family planning and breastfeeding led by Provincial Population Officers Levi Llagas, RN (PPO III) and Eva Loria, RN (PPO I). The event also featured an engaging FP Pinoy Henyo game that allowed community members to participate directly in a fun, interactive setting alongside a question-and-answer (Q&A) session.

Resource speakers from the health sector, including representatives from DOH-Bicol and PHO, alongside Population Program Officer III Hazel Jennifer R. Cardano, RN, who facilitated a key Family Planning Session Provision, shared valuable insights on modern family planning methods, maternal health, and proper child spacing.

MHO Officer Dr. Jennifer Lapuz and Camalig Vice Mayor Maria Ardhail “Ding” Baldo delivered messages of support, expressing sincere gratitude to the organizing health agencies, resource persons, and local residents for actively championing municipal health programs. They highlighted the critical role of informed decision-making in building resilient and well-supported households across the province.

The event concluded with a call to action for couples and individuals to visit their local health centers to access free counseling and family planning services provided by the government.

This activity highlights the strong partnership between the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Camalig, provincial health leaders, and national agencies in prioritizing community welfare. In a collaborative effort to revitalize the local agriculture sector, the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Camalig, through its Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), successfully led a tree-planting activity, planting over 400 coconut seedlings in Barangay Sua today, August 28, 2026.

The initiative is in line with the PCA’s national Massive Coconut Planting and Replanting Program, which targets planting 100 million coconut palms by 2028 to replace aging trees, boost agricultural income, and ensure a continuous, long-term supply of copra, oil, and food products.

Under the regional strategy steered by PCA Albay, local farmers registered under the National Coconut Farmers Registry System (NCFRS) are prioritized to receive these seedlings alongside technical supervision to maintain the crop survival rate.

To fortify local defenses against animal diseases and promote sustainable farming practices, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Camalig, through the Municipal Agricultural Office (MAO), in partnership with the Provincial Government of Albay (PGA), Department of Agriculture (DA) - RFO 5, and Albay Veterinary Office (AVO), conducted the Training on Barangay Biosecurity Officers today, August 27, at the 2nd floor of the MYTALIC Building, Camalig Municipal Hall.

Anchored on the theme "Safe Barangay, Healthy Animals, Secure Community," the capacity-building workshop aimed to turn community frontliners into active sentinels against agricultural threats across the municipality's 50 barangays.

The activity convened key barangay frontliners, specifically Barangay Kagawads leading committees on health and agriculture, alongside Barangay Health Workers (BHWs). Participants underwent intensive instruction on early detection, rapid reporting mechanisms, and strict biosecurity protocols to contain potential livestock outbreaks such as African Swine Fever (ASF).

Technical insights were delivered by Dr. Rona P. Bernales, Veterinarian IV from DA Regional Field Office 5, together with Mr. Peter S. Nantes, Livestock Inspector I from the Albay Veterinary Office. Emphasizing the call to action—"Maging Bantay, Maging Haligi, Maging Biosecurity Officer!"—the initiative reinforces Camalig's commitment to grassroots disease surveillance, protecting both smallholder livestock farmers and local food security.

Through proactive capacity-building, the LGU continues to empower grassroots leaders in safeguarding the municipality's agricultural foundation. By equipping local frontliners with essential biosecurity knowledge, Camalig takes a crucial step toward building disease-resilient agricultural communities and ensuring long-term food security for every Camaligueño.

Camalig residents avail free skin and early disease detection services

Today, August 27, 2026, the Camalig Municipal Health Office (MHO), in partnership with the Provincial Health Office (PHO), successfully conducted the Kilatis Kutis Program at the MHO Conference Hall, accommodating a total of 50 clients for free dermatology services and early disease detection.

Led by Dr. Peachy Muñoz, M.D., Medical Specialist II, along with the medical team from the MHO and PHO, the health campaign prioritized the early detection and management of various skin conditions, such as leprosy, eczema, and other fungal infections. The initiative heavily focused on promoting skin health and public education to eliminate the social stigma surrounding curable diseases.

The PHO and MHO emphasized that early clinical intervention prevents permanent complications from long-term skin disorders. The team advocated that leprosy is completely treatable with multi-drug therapy, urging community members to seek medical help early without fear of discrimination.

During the program, residents from the town availed themselves of free medical services, including skin consultations and medicine distribution.

HAPPENING NOW: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is conducting a financial assistance payout for 204 qualified Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) today, August 26, at the Camalig Command Center (CCC) in Brgy. Salugan.

The initiative is being implemented under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program, which aims to provide essential financial support to IDP families to help aid their recovery after staying in the evacuation center for more than six months. The assistance serves as a vital relief measure to help the displaced residents cushion the economic impact of prolonged displacement, cover immediate household needs, and rebuild their livelihoods as they work toward full post-calamity recovery.

In total, there are 204 beneficiaries, comprising 123 families from Brgy. Anoling, 1 family from Brgy. Sua, and 80 families from Brgy. Quirangay, who will each receive ₱3,000.00 in financial assistance.

Every part of the Camalig Community College - CComC logo has a meaning. The colors, symbols, and other details were carefully put together to represent what the college stands for and its connection to the people of Camalig.

In this post, we take a closer look at the different parts of the logo and what each one means. It is a simple way for everyone in our community to get to know the symbol that represents CComC.

The CComC logo was conceptualized and created by JEstuye of the Camalig Public Information Office (CPIO).

More than just a logo, it represents a new hope for education in Camalig. As the municipality’s first college, CComC gives Camaligueños a new opportunity to pursue a college education closer to home and dream bigger for their future.

Camalig steps up earthquake preparedness of local schools with evacuation planning training

In a bid to further strengthen emergency response systems of local schools during an earthquake, the Camalig Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) hosted the “Building Earthquake Evacuation Planning” training at the Camalig Command Center (CCC) in Brgy. Salugan. The event gathered supervisors, principals, and teachers across the town, along with the notable presence of Vice Mayor Hon. Ahrdail “Ding” Baldo.

Led by MDRRMO Chief Rommel Nebrete Jr., J.D., Ph.D., D. Hum., the morning session of the activity focused on technical key training modules designed to institutionalize localized disaster protocols. The session commenced with a comprehensive discussion on the PDRRM System structure, clarifying the lines of command and communication between provincial and municipal response units.

The discussion was followed by the collaborative formulation and review of official DRRM Plans, ensuring that local policies align with national frameworks while addressing community vulnerabilities. Negrete further led a strategic mapping of the MDRRMO’s standard DRRM Operations, establishing clear timelines, deployment routes, and resource allocation protocols for immediate activation during disasters and other crises.

Following these modules, the participants were introduced to the Building Earthquake Evacuation Planning (BEEP) program and guided with interactive sessions on the life cycle of local disaster readiness. The discussion featured a brief introduction to the BEEP’s foundational principles; plan development tailored for individual school layouts; and plan testing through simulated emergency drills.

To identify structural vulnerabilities, the afternoon session was highlighted by an intensive discussion on the Overview of Critical Infrastructure Audit in Schools. Ms. Jacken Natuel of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) further led an interactive session titled "Kamusta ang mga Bata? Mental Health of Students" to highlight psychological safety during disasters. The discussion emphasized creating supportive classroom environments that foster resilience before, during, and after disasters.

PEMS Marly Gragasin of the Camalig Municipal Police Station (CMPS) concluded the training with a lecture on Safety and Security in Schools, which focused on crime prevention, emergency lockdown protocols, and strategic coordination between school administrators and law enforcement. The briefing established guidelines for securing school grounds against external threats and managing crowd control during forced evacuations.
