Good intel pays off as PRO6 accounts for 329 wanted persons in September

Wanted persons do not usually wait around to be found. Police have to know where to look.

That is the point behind PRO6’s intelligence-driven manhunt operations, which accounted for 329 wanted persons across Western Visayas in September, including 96 classified as Most Wanted Persons.

Police Regional Office 6 said the month-long operations relied on information gathering, verification, coordination, and focused warrant service rather than simply waiting for wanted persons to surface.

Of the 329 accounted for from Sept. 1 to 30, 233 were classified as Other Wanted Persons and 96 as Most Wanted Persons.

Among the 96 MWPs were 10 listed at the regional level, 23 at the provincial level, seven at the city level, 50 at the municipal police station level, and six unranked.

Iloilo posted the largest reported number with 157 wanted persons accounted for, including 58 MWPs. Iloilo City followed with 52, Aklan with 41, Capiz with 32, Antique with 27, the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6 with nine, and Guimaras with seven.

That unit-by-unit breakdown totals 325, four short of the consolidated regional figure of 329. PRO6’s release did not identify which unit accounted for the remaining four.

Regional Director Brig. Gen. Randulf T. Tuaño said the results show why intelligence work matters in serving standing warrants.

“Ang pagkaka-account sa 329 wanted persons sa loob lamang ng isang buwan ay malinaw na resulta ng masinsing intelligence work, mahusay na koordinasyon, at determinasyon ng ating mga operating unit,” Tuaño said.

He said police would continue tracking people with outstanding warrants so they can be brought before the courts.

Community information also remains part of that process, with Tuaño urging residents to pass credible leads through proper police channels rather than confront wanted persons themselves.

The 329 figure reflects people with standing warrants who were accounted for by police. It does not determine guilt, which remains for the courts to decide.

Iloilo drives ₱5.4M weekend fishing crackdown as PRO6 arrests 35

Iloilo accounted for most of a ₱5.4-million illegal fishing haul across Western Visayas over the weekend, as police arrested 35 people in 21 operations aimed at protecting coastal resources and legitimate fishing livelihoods.

Police Regional Office 6 said the operations were conducted from Sept. 12 to 13 in Iloilo, Antique, and Capiz.

Iloilo posted the biggest share, with 13 operations, 22 arrests, and about ₱4.68 million worth of fishing equipment and other items confiscated.

That represented nearly 87% of the total reported value.

In Antique, seven operations led to seven arrests and the confiscation of items worth about ₱287,940.

A separate operation in the waters off Panay, Capiz, resulted in six arrests and the seizure of fishing equipment and other items valued at around ₱430,000.

Combined, the reported value of the confiscated items was about ₱5.4 million.

PRO6 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Randulf T. Tuaño said the campaign is meant not only to enforce fisheries laws, but also to protect communities that depend on the sea for income.

“Protecting our marine resources is also protecting the families and communities that depend on them,” Tuaño said.

“We will remain consistent in enforcing the law and will continue working with legitimate fishers to keep our waters productive and sustainable.”

PRO6 urged fishers to secure the required permits and use only lawful methods and equipment, while residents were encouraged to report suspected illegal fishing through proper authorities.

Those arrested are entitled to due process and are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Two Iloilo busts drive ₱1.82M shabu haul, 7 arrested

Two buy-bust operations in Iloilo accounted for most of the suspected shabu seized by police across Western Visayas in 24 hours, as the Police Regional Office 6 reported seven arrests and a ₱1.82 million drug haul.

From 6 a.m. Sept. 5 to 5:59 a.m. Sept. 6, police recovered about 268 grams of suspected shabu in operations in Iloilo province and Iloilo City.

The biggest haul came from San Miguel, Iloilo, where the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit 6 arrested a person classified by police as a high-value individual and seized about 170 grams of suspected shabu worth ₱1.156 million.

In Pavia, Iloilo, another buy-bust led to the arrest of a second high-value individual and the recovery of about 75 grams worth ₱510,000.

Together, the two operations accounted for about 245 grams, or more than 90% of the total suspected shabu recovered during the reporting period.

PRO6 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Randulf T. Tuaño said police would continue targeting people involved in the illegal drug trade while keeping operations within legal and procedural limits.

“We will continue to focus our efforts on individuals who are involved in the illegal drug trade while making sure that our operations are carried out properly and within the bounds of the law,” Tuaño said.

He also urged residents to report suspected drug activity through proper channels, saying community information can help prevent illegal drugs from reaching neighborhoods.

The seized substances remain subject to laboratory examination. Those arrested are entitled to due process and are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Sagip Kalikasan nets 108 in Western Visayas fishing, logging crackdown

More than 100 people were arrested in a two-day environmental enforcement drive across Western Visayas, with illegal fishing and logging accounting for most of the operations and arrests reported by Police Regional Office 6.

PRO6 said its Sagip Kalikasan operations on Aug. 15 and 30 resulted in 108 arrests, alongside the confiscation of millions of pesos worth of fishing equipment, marine products, lumber, charcoal, and other items.

Illegal fishing produced the biggest haul.

Police conducted 40 operations that led to 42 arrests and the recovery or confiscation of fish, fishing equipment, and related items worth about ₱4.21 million.

Iloilo province recorded 17 of the operations, followed by Antique with 15 and Aklan with eight.

Illegal logging generated far more operations, with 166 conducted across the region and 46 people arrested.

Police reported recovering 107 pieces of lumber and about 88,505.96 board feet of forest products, including lumber and charcoal, with an estimated value of ₱301,890.

Antique logged the most anti-illegal logging operations with 52, followed by Capiz with 51, Iloilo province with 29, Aklan with 14, Guimaras with eight, and one operation by the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6.

PRO6 also carried out operations involving other environmental laws and local ordinances, including rules on waste disposal, public cleanliness, smoking, and vandalism.

Regional Director Brig. Gen. Randulf T. Tuaño said environmental enforcement is part of policing communities whose livelihoods depend on forests, waterways, and coastal resources.

“Our responsibility does not end with responding to crimes,” Tuaño said. “We also have to help protect the places where people live, work, and earn their livelihood.”

“We will continue enforcing environmental laws fairly and consistently, but we also want our communities to understand that prevention starts with all of us.”

PRO6 urged residents to secure the required permits before engaging in fishing, forestry, quarrying, and other regulated activities involving natural resources, and to report suspected environmental violations through proper authorities.

The police release, however, contains several categories of arrests and apprehensions whose individual figures do not clearly reconcile with the stated overall total of 108. The 42 illegal-fishing arrests and 46 illegal-logging arrests account for 88 of the reported total, while additional categories were separately listed as arrests or apprehensions. PRO6 did not provide a consolidated breakdown explaining the difference.

₱1.66M shabu seized, 8 nabbed in 24-hour Western Visayas drug sweep

Eight people were arrested and about 245 grams of suspected shabu worth ₱1.66 million were seized in three anti-drug operations across Western Visayas in 24 hours, Police Regional Office 6 said.

The operations, conducted from 6 a.m. Sept. 2 to 5:59 a.m. Sept. 3, were carried out in Iloilo province and Iloilo City.

The biggest haul came from Pototan, Iloilo, where police arrested four people, one classified as a high-value individual and three as street-level individuals, in a buy-bust operation.

Authorities reported recovering about 152 grams of suspected shabu worth ₱1.033 million.

In Passi City, another buy-bust led to the arrest of three people, including one high-value individual, and the seizure of about 90 grams worth ₱612,000.

The two Iloilo province operations accounted for nearly all of the suspected shabu recovered during the 24-hour period.

A third operation in Iloilo City resulted in one arrest and the recovery of about three grams of suspected shabu.

PRO6 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Randulf T. Tuaño said police would continue acting on verified information while keeping operations within the law.

“Our goal is not simply to make arrests, but to protect communities from the harm brought by illegal drugs,” Tuaño said. “We will remain firm, but always within the bounds of the law.”

He also urged residents to report suspicious activity through legitimate police channels and not confront suspected offenders themselves.

The seized substances remain subject to laboratory examination. Those arrested are entitled to due process and are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
