Today is the Feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary-La Naval de Manila, considered as the patroness of Quezon City and the Philippine Navy in the Roman Catholic tradition.

But did you know that Ramon Magsaysay is somehow connected to this celebration?

This is because Nick Joaquin, a well-respected writer and ardent devotee to La Naval, gave his Ramon Magsaysay Award medallion to her. It was set in a case with diamonds and permanently attached to the base of the statue. The reverse side is made visible featuring Joaquin's name and a short citation.

This means that the obverse side featuring the face of Magsaysay is constantly kissing the base of the statue. Hence, whenever she is venerated, we can remember not only Nick Joaquin but also Ramon Magsaysyay who was himself also a Marian devotee.

Many thanks to Bro. Dennis C. Amarante, OP for his research which confirmed the identity of the medal at the base of the original image of the La Naval de Manila.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) expresses its deepest sympathies to the communities of Northern Cebu affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake last 30 September 2025. We join the nation in mourning the loss of lives and stand in solidarity with those who have suffered. We support the government’s immediate priority of saving lives, delivering aid, and ensuring the safety of the people. The NHCP recognizes the damage sustained by several historic sites and structures in the region, many of which are enduring symbols of faith, identity, and shared memory of the Cebuanos.

While full attention remains focused on relief and rescue operations, we encourage our local partners to take initial protective measures such as safeguarding movable heritage, retrieving significant fragments, and documenting the extent of the damage for future reference. The Commission is in close coordination with cultural agencies and stakeholders to study appropriate steps moving forward, mindful of both the needs of affected communities and the preservation of our cultural heritage.

𝐒𝐀 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐋𝐔𝐋𝐔𝐏𝐈𝐆, 𝐃𝐈 𝐊𝐀 𝐏𝐀𝐒𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐈𝐋!

The NHCP - Museo ni Ramon Magsaysay together with NHCP - Museo El Deposito, the Provincial Government of Zambales and Municipal Government of Masinloc, Zambales will open the Pag-asa sa Gitna ng Kalayaan Exhibit and Lecture on the West Philippine Sea (WPS) on 25 September 2025, 1:00 p.m. at the Masinloc Municipal Hall, Masinloc, Zambales.

Featuring images taken by photographer Paul Quiambao, the cartographic collection of the National Library of the Philippines, a miniature of the BRP Sierra Madre and the original flag of Freedomland from Admiral Tomas Cloma, the lobby exhibit will set the stage for the lecture of Ret. Associate Justice Antonio Carpio at the Third Floor, Masinloc Municipal Hall.

This exhibit, which has visited different universities around Metro Manila, will be conducted in Masinloc, Zambales due to its proximity to the WPS and communities affected by the issue, and aggression of the People’s Republic of China.

𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆| Kahapon, kasabay ng pagdiriwang ng ika-118 Taong Kapanganakan ni Pang. Ramon Magsaysay, ang ating mga kabataang boluntaryo ay muling isinagawa ang pagbibigay regalo para sa ating mga kapatid na Aeta mula sa Castillejos, Zambales.

Ang taunang "Monching's Gift" ay pinangunahan ng ating museo katuwang ang mga Museum Volunteers na nag-organisa at plano ng programa, Magsaysay Family na pinangungunahan ng mga anak ni Pangulong Magsaysay, Angel Magsaysay, mga katuwang na institusyon at organisasying pampaaralan ng DepEd Tayo Subic National High School na Subic NHS- Supreme Secondary Learner Government at BookWarm, at Pamahalaang Barangay ng San Pablo, Castillejos.

Ang programa ay sinimulan ng mga mensahe ng mga katuwang na organisasyon at sinundan ng pagbabasa ng kwentong pambata na pinangunahan ng BookWarm mula sa Subic National High School.
Ito ay sinundan ng Museum Tour na pinangunanhan ng ating mga Museum Volunteers at ang pagbibigay ng regalo para sa mga bata.

Ang taunang programa na ito ay hango sa naging buhay at legasiya ng ating mahal na Pangulomg Magsaysay na laging inaabot ang kamay ng masa. Ito ay programang naglalayon din na isulong ang kolaborasyon sa komunidad at mga institusyon nito. Higit sa lahat, ito ay programang minumulat ang mga kabataan sa kahalagahan ng pagtulong sa komunidad at pakikibahagi sa proseso ng pamamahala.

Magkita-kita ulit tayo sa susunod na taon para sa mga aktibidad na inihanda ng ating museo na laging nakasentro sa serbisyong publiko, pamumuno, komunidad, at kabataan--- ang kabuuang legasiya ng ating pinakamamahal na Monching.
