In celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month, the Cauayan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection Cauayan Station, successfully conducted a Basic Rescue Training, with FO1 Jovi Mayan and FO1 Mark Jayson Rios serving as trainers.

This initiative aligns with the vision of our Municipal Mayor, Hon. John Rey Tabujara to build localized response capabilities, particularly in the municipality’s upland barangays. Recognizing the distance and challenges ambulances face in reaching remote areas quickly, empowering community members to act as immediate first responders is vital to saving lives.

Echoing this vision, Engr. Louie A. Lagulao, LDRRMO III highlighted that this hands-on training directly strengthens the core skills of BDRRMC responders, ensuring every barangay develops a confident, self-reliant, and efficient first-response capability during critical incidents.

To turn knowledge into action, participants from Brgy. Tambad, Brgy. Elihan, Brgy. Tomina, Brgy. Baclao, Brgy. Bulata and Brgy. Inayawan engaged in intensive practical simulations. They mastered wound care and severe bleeding control through bandaging drills, properly immobilized fractured limbs using splinting techniques, and executed safe patient extrication and manual carries. Beyond medical first aid, responders also tested their teamwork through a bucket brigade exercise, a vital skill for remote areas inaccessible to fire trucks and trained in basic firefighting operations, including fire extinguisher handling and initial fire suppression.

Disaster preparedness is everyone's responsibility, but it starts at the barangay level. Continuous learning, quick action, and strong collaboration.
