PORO MOVES FOR A HEALTHIER COMMUNITY!

In celebration of Obesity Prevention Week 2026, Barangay Esperanza, through the Esperanza Barangay Health Station (BHS), successfully conducted a Fun Run/Walk promoting physical activity, healthy lifestyle, and obesity prevention.

The early morning activity brought together community members, health workers, barangay officials, and residents for a morning of movement, Zumba, fun, and camaraderie. More than just an activity, it served as a reminder that every step toward an active lifestyle contributes to a healthier and stronger community.

The Municipality of Poro extends its appreciation to Brgy. Captain Miguel A. Gorgonio, the Barangay Council, and all barangay officials for their continued support and commitment to promoting the health and well-being of the Esperanza community.

Special recognition is also given to our dedicated Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), and Barangay Tanods for their valuable time, effort, and teamwork in ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the activity.

Hands-On Learning on Soil Sampling & Analysis in Barangay Cagcagan

The Municipality of Poro, through its Corn Technician, conducted a Farmers Field School in Barangay Cagcagan, providing farmers with practical, hands-on learning on soil sampling and analysis.

As part of the activity, participants learned by doing as they were guided on the proper use of the Soil Test Kit (STK) issued by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM).

Through this hands-on approach, farmers gain practical knowledge in assessing soil conditionsβ€”an important step in making informed decisions on crop production, soil management, and proper fertilizer application.

The LGU Poro continues to support our farmers through knowledge-sharing, technical assistance, and capacity-building initiatives toward more productive and sustainable agriculture in the municipality. 🌾

A productive and meaningful Day 3 of the Capability-Building Activity was successfully conducted on September 3, 2026, at Buho Rock Resort, Western Poblacion, Poro, Cebu.

The activity focused on strengthening the roles and functions of the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC), Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC), VAWC Desks, GAD Focal Persons, Barangay Officials and Secretaries, Child Development Workers (CDWs), partners, and stakeholders in advancing child protection, gender-responsive programs, and community-based services.

Participants actively took part in discussions, evaluation activities, group workshops, experience-sharing, and the formulation of recommendations aimed at further improving the delivery and implementation of programs and services at the municipal and barangay levels.

The LGU Poro extends its sincere appreciation to our resource persons, Ms. Cynthia C. Bersabal, CWC Focal Person, and Ms. Ligaya D. Dael, Children’s Focal Person, DSWD Field Office VII, for sharing their valuable knowledge, expertise, and insights.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) has completed Phase 2 of the installation of an Internet-Based Community Early Warning System in Barangay Libertad, Poro, Cebu.

The system forms part of the LGU Poro’s continuing efforts to strengthen community-based early warning, disaster preparedness, and timely dissemination of critical information during emergencies and severe weather events.

Please note that the system is currently NOT YET OPERATIONAL. Further testing, configuration, and necessary preparations are still being undertaken prior to its full activation.

This initiative is part of the municipality’s continuing commitment to building a more prepared, informed, and disaster-resilient Poro, under the leadership of Mayor Edgar G. Rama, through the MDRRMO.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) has successfully completed Phase 1 of the installation of reflective flood warning signs in identified flood-prone areas of Barangay Mabini, Poro, Cebu.

The highly visible, reflective signs were strategically installed to provide residents and motorists with clear warnings and improve visibility during heavy rainfall, flooding, and low-light conditions, especially at night.

This initiative is part of the LGU Poro’s continuing efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness, early warning systems, and community safety, under the leadership of Mayor Edgar G. Rama, through the MDRRMO.

Yesterday, Poro took another meaningful step toward a child-friendly community as we successfully held our First Child Annual Rights Summit 2026.

The Summit brought together our young leaders, teachers, school heads, guidance counselors, LCPC and BCPC members, barangay officials, child protection advocates, partners, and stakeholdersβ€”all united with one purpose: to protect, empower, and give every child a voice.

Our heartfelt gratitude to our SSLG and SELG Presidents and Secretaries, educators, LCPC members, BCPC focal persons, VAWC and GAD focal persons, Barangay Captains and Secretaries, CDWs, WCPD Officer Lovelyn Ann M. Maratas, and all our partners and stakeholders.

Special thanks to CSO NACHPhil, headed by Pastor Jhun Simblante, for the meaningful values formation and insights on child protection.

Our sincere appreciation to our DSWD facilitators and resource personsβ€”Ma’am Ashley Conde, Ma’am Ligaya Dael, and Ma’am Cynthia Bersabalβ€”for sharing their knowledge and inspiring our participants.

The Municipality of Poro proudly takes part in the 19th East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Federation (EATOF) General Assembly 2026, hosted by the Province of Cebu from September 2–4, 2026.

Representing Poro in this international gathering are Municipal Tourism Officer Ms. Lilanie D. Tundag and Municipal Administrator Cliff Gonzales-Borlasa, joining fellow tourism leaders and delegates from across East Asia in discussions on tourism cooperation, cultural exchange, connectivity, investment, and sustainable destination development.

On Day 1, Poro joined the opening ceremonies and symposium, alongside the distinguished heads of delegation and tourism officials from EATOF member regions, together with People’s Governor Pamela S. Baricuatro of Cebu.

On Day 2, the gathering continued with the EATOF General Meeting and Governors’ Conference, where important conversations on strengthening regional tourism partnerships and creating opportunities for communities took center stage. Also present were 5th District Board Member Andrei β€œRed” Duterte and tourism officers representing the Camotes Group of Islandsβ€”Poro, San Francisco, Pilar, and Tudela.

For Poro, being part of EATOF is more than simply attending an international tourism forumβ€”it is an opportunity to connect, learn, collaborate, and bring Poro closer to the wider East Asian tourism community.
