“There is Rice in the Fields, Fish in the Water”, having rice in the field and fish in the water is an epitome of abundance and sufficiency — Sukhothai period

The Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur (PGIS), through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) – Fisheries Division, turned over 75,850 pieces of high-quality tilapia fingerlings to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Cervantes last July 1, 2026.

The fingerlings were distributed to twenty-nine (29) farmers who completed the Training on Rice-Fish Farming System held last March 30-31, 2026 at the said Municipality. This Rice-Fish farming aims to give farmers more from less, as it maximizes the use of our resources where one field produces rice with tilapia at the same time, with fish cutting pests and fertilizing crops naturally for higher income and food security.

This intervention was made possible through the efforts of the OPAg-Fisheries Division. Fingerlings were requested from BFAR-R1 and endorsed to BFAR-NFTC, Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, where the stocks were sourced. This initiative supports trained farmers and strengthens sustainable fisheries in Ilocos Sur.
