A Milestone of Progress for the People of Cortes!

The Local Government Unit of Cortes proudly celebrates the successful Turnover Ceremony of Project 25 NH0066 Construction of the Footbridge Linking Barangays Burgos and Tag-anongan (Phase I) held on August 4, 2026.

This significant undertaking was graced by the presence of HON. CONGRESSMAN ROMEO S..MOMO SR., Representative of the First District of Surigao del Sur, together with HON. GOVERNOR JOHNNY T. PIMENTEL, ably represented by SP HENRICH PIMENTEL and the Provincial Team. They were warmly welcomed by Municipal Mayor HON. FREDERICK P. YU, Vice Mayor HON. CHERRY B. DARAMAN, the members of the Sangguniang Bayan present, Former Mayor HON. DENNIS H. YU, Barangay Captain HON. ANTIOCO SIONA, barangay officials, and the residents of Barangays Burgos and Tag-anongan.

The ceremonial turnover of the Key of Responsibility symbolizes the official handover of this vital infrastructure to the community, an enduring testament to unity, collaboration, and the shared commitment of our provincial leaders to improve connectivity, accessibility, and the quality of life of every Cortesanon.

The ceremony concluded with a warm fellowship and salo-salo, where everyone in attendance shared a meal in celebration of this meaningful achievement.

1st Eco-Marathon Adventure Relay Officially Kicks Off!🔥

The 1st Eco-Marathon Adventure Relay officially commenced as participants, organizers, and festival committees gathered for the pre-race briefing and final reminders before the much-awaited gun start.

Present during the activity were Municipal Mayor Hon. Frederick P. Yu, representatives from the Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO), Municipal Tourism Office, Coastal Resource Management (CRM) Office, and other members of the organizing committee who came together to ensure the successful conduct of the event.

The briefing highlighted the race mechanics, safety guidelines, and important instructions for all participants as they prepared to take on the challenge of the adventure relay.

The sea once again became the center of excitement as participants from different barangays took part in the Game Fishing Competition, one of the featured activities of the 1st Kadagatan Festival.

Armed with their fishing gear, participants headed out to sea and proudly returned with their catch, showcasing not only their fishing skills but also the rich marine resources and coastal heritage of the Municipality of Cortes. Indeed, this is the real Kadagatan—a celebration that honors the lives, traditions, and livelihood of our coastal communities.

The activity was successfully facilitated by the Coastal Resource Management Office, under the leadership of CRM Focal Person Mr. Cris Nathaniel Geraldino, whose dedication helped make the event both meaningful and well-organized.

The excitement continued at the 1st Kadagatan Festival as the LGU Cortes Basketball Team faced off against the Vice Mayors Team in a thrilling exhibition game held at the Cortes Municipal Gymnasium.

The friendly match energized the crowd, with supporters from both sides cheering every basket and big play. While the game was played in the spirit of friendship, both teams brought their competitive edge, making the exhibition one of the festival's most enjoyable sporting events.
