Job Description:

1. Designated as the Technical Manager of the Shelf-Life
Laboratory;
2. Responsible for the overall administrative and technical
operation of the Shelf-Life Laboratory;
3. Ensures compliance with the requirements of ISO/IEC
17025:2017;
4. Ensures that the laboratory quality management system
procedures, standards, specifications and regulations
are followed and implemented effectively;
5. Ensures competence and gives authority to Shelf-Life
Laboratory personnel who operates specific equipment,
conducts method validation, performs tests, evaluates
results and signs report of analysis;
6. Ensures that all resources needed for laboratory
operation are of required quality;
7. Ensures proper functioning of equipment and facilities in
the Shelf-Life Laboratory;
8. Conducts research on properties/characteristics of
various food products;
9. Prepares/develops shelf life study design for various food
products;
10. Conducts shelf life study of various food products which
includes monitoring of periodical sampling and testing,
calculation/statistical evaluation and interpretation of
data, and preparation of report;
11. Prepares sensory test design/method including
worksheets and scoresheets appropriate for the shelf-life
study of various products and facilitates the conduct of
sensory evaluation;
12. Prepares/updates/reviews test methods, work
instructions, general procedures, forms, and other
necessary documentation in the operation of the Shelf
Life Laboratory;
13. Ensures the safekeeping of the laboratory’s technical
documents in order maintain confidentiality and integrity;
14. Ensures that products and services satisfy customer
requirements;
15. Specifies and/or identifies all methodologies used in the
laboratory;
16. Prepares the method validation plan/design for test
methods in the Halal Verification Laboratory;
17. Responsible for the nonconforming work in the technical
operations of the laboratory and ensures that the
corrective actions are identified and implemented;
18. Reviews and signs the Calibration/Analysis Request
Form (CARF);
19. Checks work sheets/ raw data and reviews and signs
Report of Analysis;
20. Reports to the Immediate supervisor and submit updated
reports as required, and
21. Performs other related functions as may be assigned
from time to time.

Job Description:

1. Assists the Chief SRS in supervising the Senior SRS heading the five laboratory sections: Microbiology Lab, Physico-Chemistry Lab, Halal Verification Lab, Metrology Lab, and Shelf-Life Lab.
2. Coordinates laboratory activities, research projects, and testing services to ensure smooth operations across sections.
3. Ensures all laboratory sections adhere to national and international standards such as ISO/IEC 17025:2017, Halal certification guidelines, and metrology regulations.
4. Acts as Quality Manager in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
5. Oversees and ensures the implementation and continuous improvement of the Laboratory Quality Management System (LQMS) to ensure full compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
6. Leads the preparation for accreditation, external audits, and regulatory inspections.
7. Reviews and recommends for approval the corrective and preventive action plans to address non-conformities in laboratory processes.
8. Coordinates and ensures proper documentation of general procedures, test methods, and research protocols.
9. Prepares guidelines in the implementation of research projects related to laboratory services, food safety, halal verification, metrology, and shelf-life studies.
10. Reviews, evaluates, and recommends for approval the research proposals, methodologies, and outputs to ensure alignment with industry needs and regulatory requirements.
11. Assists in identifying emerging trends and technological advancements that can enhance laboratory capabilities.
12. Assists the Chief SRS in preparing and managing the budget proposal for laboratory operations, work and financial plan, research projects, and procurement of laboratory equipment and supplies.

The Bangsamoro Standards and Halal Testing Laboratories (BSHTL) welcomed 46 Grade 12-STEM students from Notre Dame of Cotabato for a meaningful Field Exposure Activity, giving them the opportunity to experience real-world laboratory science and explore future career paths in STEM.

During the visit, the students toured the various laboratory sections and observed testing procedures in the Microbiology, Physico-Chemistry, and Halal Verification Laboratory. The BSHTL personnel demonstrated how laboratory analyses are performed and highlighted the importance of accuracy, safety, and scientific integrity in delivering reliable results that support consumer safety and regulatory compliance.

The students actively engaged with the facilitators, asking questions and learning how scientific principles are applied in day-to-day laboratory operations. The activity aimed to deepen their interest in STEM fields while providing valuable insights into the critical role of laboratories in public service and support to MSMEs and other stakeholders.

During the closing program, the Notre Dame of Cotabato expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the meaningful learning experience, while the BSHTL reaffirmed its commitment to supporting educational institutions in inspiring the next generation of scientists and innovators.
