A successful four-day Joint Trail Assessment was conducted from August 4–7, 2026 at the Mt. Apo Natural Park (MANP) – Bongolanon, Magpet Trail, in partnership with the Magpet Tourism Office, DENR–MANP Cotabato, Office of the Municipal Mayor (OMM), Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), Magpet Guides and Porters, and Barangay Bongolanon.

The four-day activity aimed to assess the current condition and status of the trail, evaluate changes that may have occurred over the past years, and determine whether portions of the trail were affected by the recent earthquakes experienced in the region. The assessment also focused on identifying potential safety hazards along the trail, including loose rocks, fallen trees and branches, eroded sections, landslide-prone areas, and other environmental risks that may pose concerns to future trekkers and visitors.

The findings of the assessment will serve as a basis for implementing appropriate corrective and preventive measures to help ensure the safety and security of future visitors utilizing the Bongolanon Trail. The assessment team utilized the TRAM (Trail Assessment and Monitoring) Tool to systematically document the current condition of the trail and record relevant observations and findings throughout the assessment.

Magpet Tourism successfully convened its 3rd Quarter Meeting with the members of the Majestic Magpet Tourism Operators Association (MaMaTOA) to discuss key programs, initiatives, and priority concerns for the municipality's tourism sector and its stakeholders.💚

The meeting primarily focused on the calendar of activities for the upcoming Tourism Month Celebration. Other important agenda included updates on the association's SEC registration, the presentation of the 2nd Quarter Tourist Arrival Report for same-day visitors, and the reiteration of the guidelines and procedures for conducting activities within tourism establishments in the municipality. Discussions also covered preparations for the upcoming Kalivungan Festival and Magpet's Foundation Anniversary.

During the meeting, the Magpet Tourism Office also officially presented the Cluster Audio-Visual Presentation (AVP), "Where to in Magpet," which is scheduled for official release on the Magpet Tourism Center page on September 1, 2026. The promotional video was developed to serve as a travel guide for visitors and future travelers by showcasing where to eat, stay, camp, and explore in Magpet, making it easier for them to plan their visit and experience the municipality's tourism offerings.

On behalf of the Local Government Unit of Magpet, we sincerely express our appreciation to all our tourism partners for their time, commitment, active participation, and valuable insights during the meeting. Your continued support and cooperation greatly contribute to the success of the municipality's tourism initiatives.

A joint site visit and inspection were conducted by the Magpet Tourism Office and the Office of the Building Official at Ribersayd Haydout, one of the new camping site located in Barangay Bongolanon, Magpet. The 5,000-square-meter campsite is owned and managed by Ms. Ivy Faye Abellanosa.

During the inspection and discussion, the Tourism Office provided the campsite management with the minimum tourism requirements and recommendations to help prepare the area for visitors and tourist upon the completion of the documentary requirements from the LGU. These recommendations included improving the visibility of their camp signages and installing adequate garbage bins throughout the campsite.

We would like to thank Ma'am Ivy and the entire Ribersayd Haydout team for their warm hospitality and for giving the team a tour of the beautiful area.

We look forward to seeing more tourism destinations and opportunities flourish in the Municipality of Magpet.

The Local Government Unit of Magpet has taken its first step toward the conduct and implementation of the Local Cultural Mapping initiative. As part of the preparatory process, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Cotabato Provincial Office conducted a pre-conference with the members of the Technical Working Group (TWG) representatives to discuss the implementation process and strategies for securing the Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) necessary for the activity.

The LGU Magpet extends its sincere gratitude to OIC Regional Director Joey Bogay, MPA, for his invaluable assistance and unwavering support for this undertaking. We also express our heartfelt appreciation to Ms. Vivian B. Ambuat and the entire IKSP Team for their guidance and technical assistance in ensuring that the activity and FPIC process are well-organized, systematic, and responsive to the concerns of the LGU.

We also thank all the Barangay Officials and Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representatives (IPMRs) who submitted their initial inventory lists and demonstrated their full support and commitment to this important initiative.

Together, we look forward to the successful implementation of the Local Cultural Mapping activity, which will contribute to the preservation, documentation, and promotion of Magpet's rich cultural heritage.

The 1st NCIP Provincial Validation was successfully conducted for the proposed rehabilitation and improvement of Tousuvan Ecopark, located in Sitio Waterfalls, Barangay Bongolanon, Magpet.

The validation, conducted by NCIP Cotabato, marks the first step in the Free and Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) process required for the implementation of the project. The project proponents are the Indigenous Peoples Structure (IPS) of Barangay Bongolanon, in partnership with the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Bongolanon.

The implementation of this project is one of the priority tourism development initiatives of Mayor Jay Laurence Gonzaga, reflecting the Municipality's commitment to promoting sustainable tourism while ensuring environmental protection, cultural preservation, and positive community impact.

Present during the validation activity were representatives from NCIP Cotabato, the Indigenous Peoples Structure of Barangay Bongolanon, BLGU Bongolanon, LGU Magpet Tourism Office, and the LGU Magpet Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO).

We extend our sincere appreciation to the NCIP Regional Office, headed by Regional Director Joey Bogay, for its invaluable assistance in advancing this proposed project toward realization. We also thank NCIP Cotabato for facilitating the validation process and inviting the LGU to participate. The Local Government Unit of Magpet, through the Municipal Tourism Office, in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Magpet Fire Station, successfully conducted the second day of its Capacity-Building Training on Basic Life Support, Water Rescue, Fire Safety Orientation, and Animal Bite Response.

The second day of the training focused on Basic Water Rescue and a situational emergency response simulation, where participants were presented with various emergency scenarios and demonstrated the appropriate rescue and response procedures. The water rescue simulation was conducted in a swimming pool to provide participants with practical, hands-on experience. Unfortunately, the planned river rescue simulation was not push through due to unfavorable weather conditions and the strong river current, prioritizing the safety of everyone involved.

As part of the initiative to strengthen emergency preparedness within the municipality's tourism sector, each participating tourism establishment received a First Aid Kit to be placed in their respective establishments. This initiative reflects the Municipal Tourism Office's commitment to promoting a culture of safety, preparedness, and responsible tourism while ensuring that both visitors and residents enjoy a safe and secure tourism experience.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Jay Laurence Gonzaga for his unwavering support of the Municipal Tourism Office's programs and initiatives.
