The CNSC FMRC successfully conducted the โCutting Forward: Basic Workflow Training and Product Opportunity Presentation on CO2 Laser Cutting and Engraving Technologyโ on May 5, 2026, attended by 20 participants from various sectors, including MSMEs, researchers, and professors.
The activity was headed by Engr. Ronald S. Mancenido (Director) of CNSC FMRC, with Jarvin E. Nuylan (Laboratory Technician) and Ma. Elira U. Ramos (Creative Designer) serving as resource speakers. Documentation was handled by JP Balte (Business Development / Office Staff), with assistance from student assistant Ma. Mayden Gavino.
The training provided participants with fundamental knowledge and practical insights into the workflow and applications of CO2 Laser Cutting and Engraving technology, highlighting its wide opportunities in product development, customization, fabrication, and innovation.
A live demonstration was also conducted on the proper use of the CO2 laser engraving and cutting machine, including the preparation of materials, required tools, machine setup, and essential safety procedures for users. This helped participants better understand the correct workflow and safe operation of the equipment.
Additionally, the speakers presented the various services offered by the office to inform participants of the latest available offerings. They also discussed how AI can help generate fresh ideas, serve as references, and support the development of functional and marketable products with the guidance of a team of experts.
They further emphasized how MSMEs and researchers can benefit from CNSC FMRC through access to advanced and expensive equipment, eliminating the need for them to purchase and maintain such machines. This also allows them to save on capital and operational costs, while benefiting from free consultation and technical guidance provided by the center.
Furthermore, MSMEs showed great interest in engraving and cutting services, as well as 3D printing technology. An open discussion was also conducted to gather ideas and concerns regarding the accessibility and availability of FMRC services, including service pricing. During the discussion, MSMEs raised concerns on how pricing is determined, particularly since they also need to provide accurate quotations to their own clients. In response, Engr. Ronald S. Mancenido, Director of FMRC, provided insights and recommendations to help establish a more feasible pricing system. The proposal and recommendations were well-received and agreed upon by the participants and will be pursued moving forward.
Through the activity, MSMEs gained a better understanding of how FMRC services can support business growth, while researchers and professors recognized its potential in prototyping, instructional materials, and research-based innovations. This initiative further strengthened collaboration between the institution and stakeholders through innovation, creativity, and modern fabrication services.
