t to a reawakened relevance in the campus, church and society. Founded in December 27, 1960, SCMP lives and actualizes faith in the face of all social contradictions by upholding human rights and advancing the democratic interests of the Filipino people in the quest for a just and humane society. SCMP opens itself to students regardless of faith denomination, gender, age and class origin to ecumenically live, participate and unite with the struggling student movement and the broader people’s movement for social salvation and national democracy.

BASIC COMMITMENTS:
1. God puts us right through our faith in Christ (Romans 5:22) by living His way of life. As Christ’s followers, we should abide by His example of social involvement to build the foundations of a truly just and humane society as God has promised. Because we live in one inhabited world, our interfaith unity can create an ecumenical movement that will bring forth the good news of salvation: a genuine change reflective in the lives and struggles of the Filipino people.
2. LOVE: Love thy neighbor (Mass Orientation)
Love is Christ’s main commandment; it is the most basic act to show our faith. Our society is in need of more love: a selfless, justice-seeking and compassionate kind of love for the poor and oppressed, seeking to resolve its dismal and worsening conditions. The love for other people is our Christian mission and imperative, next to our love for God and His love for us (1 John 4:21). This mass orientation highlights the need to be in union with the suffering majority -- the basic masses, composed mainly of farmers and workers -- toward national liberation and democracy.
3. (National Democracy)
Struggle is our form of action as expression of faith (James 2:14-17) and manifestation of love (1 John 3:16), especially in the present semi-colonial and semi-feudal set up of our society. All oppression and exploitation are caused by the social evils of imperialism, bureaucrat capitalism and feudalism. in this context, the realization of life in all its fullness entails the fight to attain all human rights with the aspiration for national democracy as the first and concrete step to a better society. To struggle for the democratic rights and interests of the Filipino people is to live life in God’s service, heeding His call for social justice, genuine freedom and lasting peace.
