Caring for Our Coast, Growing a Greener Future!

The Local Government Unit of Sarrat, headed by Municipal Mayor Ralph Conrad Medrano, through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), actively participated in the recently conducted Coastal Clean-Up and Tree Growing Activity held at Brgy. Baruyen, Bangui, Ilocos Norte.

The activity was sponsored by the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Northern Luzon, headed by Assistant Secretary Ana Carmela V. Remigio, bringing together different stakeholders in a collective effort to protect our coastal environment, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen community resilience.

Beyond cleaning our shores, planting trees is an investment in a safer and more sustainable future. Every piece of trash removed and every tree planted represents a small but meaningful step toward protecting our communities from environmental hazards and preserving our natural resources for the generations to come.

The LGU Sarrat remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote environmental protection, disaster resilience, and community participation.

Together, let us keep our environment clean, green, and resilient!

DISASTER RESILIENCY FORUM: EMPOWERING OUR FARMERS THROUGH WEATHER INFORMATION

The Municipality of Sarrat, through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) successfully conducted a Disaster Resiliency Forum with the members of the Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Council (MAFC)

The forum focused on “Understanding Weather Warnings for Farmers and Agricultural Technicians,” highlighting the importance of timely and accurate weather information in making informed decisions, protecting agricultural livelihoods, and strengthening the resilience of our farming communities against weather-related hazards.

The activity was made more meaningful through the informative and insightful presentation of Assistant Weather Services Chief Ma’am Cynthia O. Iglesia of PAGASA – Northern Luzon, who shared valuable knowledge on understanding weather warnings, interpreting weather updates, and using these information to guide agricultural activities and preparedness measures.

As part of the activity, agricultural seeds were also distributed to the participating farmers as a simple token of appreciation for their active participation and continued support for initiatives promoting disaster resilience and climate-smart agriculture.

The success of this activity would not have been possible without the strong support and commitment of the MDRRMC Chairman and Municipal Mayor, Ralph Conrad Medrano, whose leadership continues to strengthen disaster preparedness, agricultural resilience, and community-based risk reduction initiatives in the Municipality of Sarrat.

To our MAFC members, led by President Russel Rey Alejon, thank you for your active participation and continued partnership.

When farmers understand the weather, they can better prepare, protect their livelihood, and make informed decisions.

Together, let us build a more prepared, resilient, and climate-ready agricultural community!
