🌿 PHILIPPINE ENVIRONMENT MONTH 2026

Throughout the month of June 2026, the Local Government Unit of Sigay successfully conducted a series of environmental activities in celebration of Philippine Environment Month, demonstrating our collective commitment to protecting, preserving, and restoring our natural resources.

June 11, 2026
🧹 Simultaneous Clean-Up Drive
Residents, barangay officials, volunteers, and various stakeholders joined hands in a simultaneous clean-up drive across all barangays, promoting environmental cleanliness, proper waste management, and community participation.

June 17–19, 2026
🌳 Quarterly Assessment for S.A.L.U.A.D. and Search for Best Barangay Tree Park
Assessment teams conducted the quarterly evaluation of the S.A.L.U.A.D. Program alongside the Search for the Best Barangay Tree Park, recognizing the continued efforts of our barangays in environmental conservation, tree-growing initiatives, and sustainable community practices.

🌱 Vegetative Restoration Activity
Vegetative restoration activities were carried out in Saeban and Pengsa, targeting the eroded portions of Barangay San Ramon and Poblacion. The activity aimed to rehabilitate vulnerable areas, prevent further soil erosion, and strengthen the municipality's climate resilience through nature-based solutions.

These meaningful activities reflect the unwavering dedication of LGU Sigay thru the leadership of our environmentally inclined Local Chief Executive Hon. Carlo Crisanto Pena Peredo and our partner communities in fostering environmental stewardship. Together, we continue to build a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Sigay for present and future generations.

🌿 LGU Sigay Receives Recognition for Environmental Stewardship!

On June 29, 2026, LGU Sigay was honored with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur in recognition of our invaluable partnership and unwavering support in advancing environmental conservation initiatives across the province.

Today, June 30, 2026, during the Environment Month Culminating Program, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-PENRO) Ilocos Sur conferred upon LGU Sigay a Certificate of Recognition for the successful implementation of the SALUAD Program, highlighting our dedication to environmental protection, community participation, and sustainable resource management.

The successful implementation of SALUAD and all other Environmental Protection and Conservation efforts of the municipality is rooted in the unwavering support of the whole Local Government Unit headed by our Local Chief Executive Hon. Carlo Crisanto Pena Peredo.

Furthermore, we would like to extend this recognition to all Barangay Government Units of Sigay for their diligent participation to SALUAD and the steeled implementation of environmental laws and regulations within their jurisdictions.

These recognitions inspire us to continue working hand in hand with our partners and the people of Sigay in building a cleaner, greener, and more resilient municipality for future generations.

Almaciga Tree Now Critically Endangered, Fewer Than 1000 Remain

The almaciga tree, one of the Philippines’ oldest native species, is now classified as critically endangered, with fewer than 1000 mature trees left in the wild.
