As part of continued efforts of the Local Government Unit of Sigay through the leadership of Hon. Carlo Crisanto Pena Peredo to promote environmental awareness and responsible tourism, Waste Management Signages have been installed along the Aw-asen Trail.

These signages serve as friendly reminders to every hiker and visitor to dispose of waste properly, minimize litter, and help protect the natural beauty of the trail. 🌱

Let’s all do our part in keeping Aw-asen clean and safe for everyone. Leave only footprints, take only memories, and bring your waste with you.

The monitoring of the Lower Amburayan River System - Water Quality Management Area (LARS-WQMA) Action Plan in the Municipality of Sigay was conducted on September 16, 2026, as part of the continuing efforts to protect, preserve, and improve the quality of our water resources.

The activity brought together a monitoring team composed of dedicated personnel from:

🔹 DENR-EMB Regional Office 1
🔹 PENRMO-Ilocos Sur
🔹 PENRMO-La Union
🔹 DPWH Regional Office 1
🔹 NIA Regional Office 1

The monitoring activity aims to assess the implementation of the LARS-WQMA Action Plan, evaluate ongoing environmental management initiatives, and identify areas for improvement in the protection and conservation of the river system.

Through strengthened inter-agency coordination, regular monitoring, and shared environmental responsibility, we continue to work toward cleaner waterways, healthier communities, and a sustainable future for all.

PLASTIC-PRODUCING COMPANIES NOW ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR OWN WASTE

| Companies that produce plastic products are now legally responsible for managing their own plastic waste under the Extended Producer Responsibility law, with 80% of company-produced plastic required to be diverted from waste by 2028, DENR Undersecretary Jonas Leones said Saturday.

Leones told DZRH News program "Special on Saturday" that the law ends decades of placing the entire solid waste burden on local governments and signals a new era of corporate accountability for environmental impact.
