- The PGIS-PENRMO headed by PENRM Officer Mr. Edgar I. Yabes has conducted Inofmation Education and Communication on the salient points of RA 7942 " The Philippine Mining Act of 1995". This activity aims to inform and familiarize the MLGU and BLGUs on the PPAs being undertaken by the PENRMO with regards to Mineral Management, as well as the responsibilities Local Government Units in the implementation of the Act. The IEC was participated by all Municipal Officials, other Municipal Employees, Punong Barangays and Barangay Secretaries of Sigay, Ilocos Sur.

Philippine Giant Almaciga Tree Now on the Brink of Extinction

The Almaciga tree, or Philippine Kauri, one of the nation’s oldest and tallest forest giants, is rapidly disappearing. Known to live over 1,000 years, grow up to 200 feet tall, and develop trunks as wide as 8 feet, the species now has fewer than 1,000 mature trees remaining in the wild.

Its decline is driven by illegal logging, habitat loss, and heavy harvesting of its resin. Protecting the Almaciga means safeguarding a living witness to centuries of Philippine natural history and preserving a symbol of the country’s forest heritage.

The SALUAD Assessment Team and the Search for Best Barangay Tree Park Assessment Team, both headed by Hon. Mayor Carlo Crisanto Pena Peredo have successfully concluded the simultaneous assessment for the Search for Best Barangay Implementer of Waste Management Practices, and Green Spaces Preservation Initiatives in the Municipality of Sigay.

The integration of waste management initiatives and the promotion of green spaces is fundamental to sustainable development.
