ππππ: The Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group Western Visayas, along with MSIU WV and VCA WV, successfully conducted a Gender Sensitivity Training at Tely's Beach House, East Valencia, Guimaras, from 02 to 04 October 2025.
The training aimed to foster a culture of equity and respect within an organization historically characterized by uniform structures and roles. Its objectives included reducing discrimination and harassment, promoting collaboration to enhance operational efficiency, and ensuring inclusive service delivery particularly during disaster relief and maritime emergency operations.
Personnel from MEP ERG WV, MSIU, and VCA WV participated in the activity. Key topics were presented by representatives from the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) and the Provincial Legal Office of Guimaras. Police Chief Master Sergeant Mary Jean C. Song discussed Republic Act No. 9262, the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, while Atty. Erika B. Mallorca covered gender sensitivity principles and related legal frameworks, including issues of physical violence, stereotyping, sexual violence, and psychological abuse.
This initiative supports national legislation and international commitments to gender equity. It addresses systemic barriers, empowers female personnel through leadership opportunities and equitable resource allocation, and reinforces the Coast Guardβs operational professionalism. These efforts strengthen organizational cohesion, ensure compliance with anti-discrimination policies, and sustain public trust in the delivery of impartial, mission-critical services.
