PASSI CITY, Iloilo โ The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) Region 6 distributed โฑ612,574.58 worth of indemnity checks to 180 rice and corn farmers who suffered losses due to typhoons, pests, and crop diseases during the Farmersโ and Cooperativesโ Week celebration on October 14, 2025, at the Passi City Arena.
Regional Manager II Eva Ulie D. Laud and Insurance Underwriter Jose Gamarcha led the turnover of checks to the farmer-beneficiaries with the full support and assistance of DA-Passi City Agricultural Technicians and staff. Recognizing the sectorโs contribution in food security, RM Laud said, โthis initiative reinforces the PCICโs commitment to helping farmers recover from natural calamities and sustain their agricultural livelihoodsโ. Mr. Gamarcha, Insurance Underwriter for Passi City on the other hand, discussed among others the objectives of crop insurance, the procedure in the filing of notice of loss and the causes of loss compensable under PCIC guidelines.
The activity is part of PCICโs ongoing efforts to expand crop insurance coverage in Western Visayas and help more farmers recover from losses.
According to PCIC Region 6โs report, the agency achieved significant accomplishments in crop insurance coverage in the city with 5,330 farmers insured from January to September 2025. The insured area reached 3,965 hectares, covering โฑ80.05 million worth of crops.
