Farm update πŸŒ±πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ

We are in the final stages of completing the new guesthouse, which will provide space for interns, visitors and camps. Nearby, a public area with toilets and a shower is currently under construction. We also have a new building that provides more space for processing organic fertilizer.

In the veggie garden, we are currently experimenting with the cultivation of radishes, carrots, cucumbers, onions and herbs such as coriander to supply a Vietnamese restaurant in Cagayan de Oro. Itβ€˜s also our first time planting watermelon πŸ‰

Another major update: Bata-Alima was able to acquire another 6 hectares of land, extending the property line directly to the main road. With big plans for the future, we are working step by step to reach our goals πŸ€—βœ¨

We recently hosted a 5-day kidsβ€˜ Camp on our farm. πŸ•οΈ Thanks to our newly finished guesthouses, we finally have the space to accommodate larger groups.

Divided into rotating groups, the kids participated in an acrylic and earth painting Workshop and an educational farm tour. 🎨🌱 The farm tour was all about important environmental topics β€” like exploring the causes of landslides and floods, understanding the impact of deforestation and learning how plants communicate with each other.

The adventure continued with an overnight camping trip to Lake Napalit, where the kids tested their new knowledge in a farm quiz before enjoying an afternoon of swimming and kayaking on the lake. πŸ’¦ Back on the farm, our experienced farmers taught the kids how to make organic fertilizer. Afterwards, they practiced contour lining and planted trees together. πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎπŸͺ΄ The Camp ended with a refreshing excursion to a nearby waterfall.

We are looking forward to host many more events like this in the future! 🧑

In collaboration with Streetlight "Suga sa Dalan" Organization β€” an organization in Cagayan de Oro, dedicated to supporting minors affected by prostitution and trafficking β€” a 3-day camp recently took place on our farm. The camp was held for six community-based Clients from Streetlight "Suga sa Dalan" Organization, with a focus on healing and bonding with their social workers. An outing as a reward for the girls for passing their exams πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“

The days were a mix of education and spending time in nature. The girls explored the farm, harvested and cooked string beans, played badminton, attended a lecture on Anti-Bastos and Anti-Trafficking Laws, and took a refreshing break at the river. The evenings ended with everyone relaxing together around a bonfire. 🏞️

We are glad Bata-Alima could provide a peaceful setting for these activities, and we look forward to hosting more events in collaboration with Streetlight in the future 🧑🧑

Our 15 helping hands – the 4th year agriculture students from USTP Claveria – are in their final week here on the farm. We are also very happy to have two volunteers from Switzerland putting so much effort into helping on the land 🧑

We got a lot done together and besides the work, there was also time to enjoy nature and do some outside activities ⛏️ πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ“ 🀝 🏞️
