The Cordillera Administrative Region once again carved its place in the international higher education landscape as its higher education institutions (HEIs) recorded a stronger showing in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2026, announced during the 6th Hanseatic League of Universities Annual Conference at National Chi Nan University in Taiwan on May 7, 2026.
From the Global Top 400 in 2025 to the Global Top 500 in 2026, WURI expanded its global recognition by 25%, creating a wider and more competitive field for higher education institutions worldwide. Amid this broader landscape, the Cordillera stood firm and climbed higher, with 16 HEIs in the region securing places in the WURI 2026 rankings. This represents approximately 30.19% of Cordillera HEIs, underscoring the regionโs growing contribution to the countryโs visibility in international innovation rankings.
More notably, 15 out of the 16 ranked Cordillera HEIs improved their global standing, reflecting a remarkable 93.75% rank-improvement rate among the regionโs ranked institutions. This upward movement signals not only numerical progress but also a deepening culture of innovation, responsiveness, sustainability, and global engagement among Cordillera HEIs.
Like the regionโs mountain terraces, carved through patience, persistence, and collective labor, the rise of Cordillera HEIs in WURI 2026 reflects years of institutional groundwork. These achievements were shaped by stronger innovation narratives, community-rooted programs, internationalization initiatives, sustainability efforts, and institutional practices that respond to local realities while engaging with global challenges.
For CHED Cordillera, this milestone affirms the regionโs continuing pursuit of the Commissionโs ACHIEVE Agenda and the continuing impact of the FLAIR-UPLIFT Masterclass, particularly in advancing higher education that is accessible, innovative, inclusive, responsive, and globally competitive. It also highlights the collective work of HEI leaders, faculty, researchers, international relations officers, and stakeholders who continue to bring Cordillera higher education to the world stage.
The WURI 2026 results are more than rankings. They are a testament to the Cordillera spirit: grounded in culture, strengthened by community, and always rising toward greater heights.
From the Cordillera to the world, today, and beyond, the climb continues!
