Congressman Jess Marquez actively participated in the Committee on Higher and Technical Education hearing at the House of Representatives, where lawmakers deliberated on key measures to strengthen the country's higher education and technical-vocational sector.

Among the measures discussed were bills on the Philippine Normal University Charter, campus expansions of state universities and colleges, the establishment of TESDA district offices, skills training opportunities for persons deprived of liberty, and initiatives to enhance campus safety and security all aimed at expanding access to quality education and creating more opportunities for every Filipino.

Congressman Jesus “Jess” Marquez attended the Regular Meeting of the Committee on Local Government at the Ramon V. Mitra Building, House of Representatives, chaired by Aklan 2nd District Congressman Joeben Miraflores.

During the meeting, Chairman Miraflores warmly acknowledged and congratulated Congressman Jess Marquez on his appointment as the new Chairman of the Committee on Science and Technology.

The committee deliberated on several local bills aimed at strengthening local government units (LGUs), improving local governance, and addressing the needs of communities across different parts of the country.

Bilang ama, mas nauunawaan ko ngayon na may mga laban na hindi nakikita ng ibang tao. May mga magulang na tahimik na lumalaban araw-araw—umaasa, nagdarasal, at ginagawa ang lahat para lamang mabigyan ng mas magandang kinabukasan ang kanilang anak.

I am deeply honored that my Privilege Speech delivered on August 12, 2025 has been recognized among the best Privilege Speeches of the 20th Congress.

This recognition is not mine alone.

I dedicate this milestone to my father, Carlito Marquez, who inspired me to always strive to become a better version of myself and whose example of leadership continues to guide me every day.

Preserving Heritage, Strengthening Education, and Advancing Local Legislation

Congressman Jess Marquez actively participated in the Committee on Basic Education and Culture hearing held at Nograles Hall, where lawmakers deliberated on measures seeking to institutionalize the Schools of Living Traditions (SLTs) and discussed several local bills.

The proposed measures on the Schools of Living Traditions aim to preserve and promote the country's rich indigenous knowledge, cultural heritage, traditional arts, languages, and customs by integrating them into the education system. These initiatives recognize the vital role of indigenous communities and cultural bearers in passing on their knowledge and traditions to future generations.

The committee also tackled local bills affecting various local government units, highlighting Congress' commitment to addressing community-specific concerns through responsive and effective legislation.

The hearing was attended by representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), local government organizations, and other education stakeholders who provided valuable insights on the proposed measures.
