NCIP XII Participates in the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) for the 7.8 Magnitude Sarangani Earthquake

The Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) Team was established to conduct comprehensive assessments of the impacts of disasters and determine the recovery and rehabilitation needs of affected communities. Using pre-disaster baseline data, the team evaluates the extent of damage and losses, identifies recovery priorities, and assesses the effectiveness of response and assistance efforts. The findings serve as a basis for planning, resource allocation, and the development of strategies that promote resilient and sustainable recovery.

From July 27 to August 14, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) participated in the PDNA activities conducted in communities affected by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake. The NCIP-PDNA Team was composed of Girlie M. Campo-Amor, Lavela May U. Guili, Darilyn T. Ayupan, Jeffrey Ducon, Kim Duane B. Ba-ay, Krisle Ann Rangaban, and Michael Lumbay. The team was deployed to various affected barangays of Sarangani and South Cotabato to conduct assessments and document the conditions and needs of Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities.
The NCIP-PDNA Team took on the challenge of reaching and assessing IP communities in disaster-affected areas to ensure that their unique circumstances and needs were properly recognized and included in the overall recovery and rehabilitation efforts. Through the assessment, the team provided these communities with an opportunity to voice their concerns, identify their most urgent needs, and determine the necessary interventions to help them recover and rebuild their lives following the devastating calamity.

The participation of the NCIP in the PDNA underscores its commitment to ensuring that Indigenous Peoples are not left behind in disaster response, recovery, and rehabilitation. The assessment results will contribute to evidence-based planning and resource allocation, while supporting recovery strategies that are inclusive, responsive, resilient, and sustainable for affected IP communities.
