Nutrition Month is an annual nationwide campaign that promotes greater awareness and action on nutrition among Filipinos. It is mandated under Section 7 of Presidential Decree No. 491, otherwise known as the Nutrition Act of the Philippines, which officially declares July as Nutrition Month and designates the National Nutrition Council (NNC) to lead and coordinate the celebration. Through this annual observance, the campaign highlights priority nutrition issues through a selected theme, encourages positive nutrition behaviors, and mobilizes multi-sectoral action among National Government Agencies (NGAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), development partners, and communities to improve the nutritional status of Filipinos.
On July 4, 2026, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through the Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC), in partnership with the Provincial Cooperative Development Council (PCDC) and the Municipal Government of Lake Sebu, joined the nation in celebrating Nutrition Month through a Joint Nutrition Month Launching and Community Outreach Program held at Lake Lahit, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.
The event was conducted in partnership with the PCDC in line with the celebration of International Cooperatives Day. Activities included the distribution of micronutrient supplements, vegetable seeds, fruit tree seedlings, Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) materials, food packs with hygiene kits, and pre-loved clothing, as well as the conduct of a mass feeding activity.
The outreach program primarily benefited vulnerable members of the community, including senior citizens, families with undernourished children, mothers, and pregnant women. Through this collaborative initiative, the participating agencies reaffirmed their commitment to promoting proper nutrition, improving food security, and enhancing the health and well-being of the people of South Cotabato.
