πˆππ‚πˆπƒπ„ππ“ π‘π„ππŽπ‘π“: The Coast Guard Station Eastern Sarangani (CGSES), in coordination with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Glan, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Glan, and the Philippine National Police (PNP) Maritime Group, successfully rescued two fishermen after their motor banca submerged due to rough sea conditions and adverse weather on May 28, 2026.

At approximately 5:11 PM, CGSES received a cellular phone call from the staff of Sumbang Point Belimac Beach reporting a distressed motorbanca requesting immediate assistance approximately 150 meters off the shoreline of Sumbang Point, Barangay Taluya, Glan, Sarangani Province.

Upon receipt of the report, personnel from CGSES, together with Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Glan, immediately launched a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation aboard a rubber boat provided by the LGU-Glan. The operation was conducted in close coordination with MDRRMO-Glan to ensure the immediate safety and retrieval of the distressed fishermen.

At 6:30 PM on the same date, the distressed motorbanca, together with the two fishermen, was successfully rescued and safely transported to the Port of Glan. Thereafter, MDRRMO-Glan personnel immediately conducted a medical evaluation and initial assessment of the rescued fishermen and confirmed that both were in good physical condition and had sustained no serious injuries.

Based on the victims’ report, they were en route to Balut Island, Davao Occidental, when their motorbanca encountered strong waves and unfavorable sea conditions, causing the vessel to partially submerge and leaving them stranded at sea.

The successful rescue operation highlights the importance of rapid response, effective inter-agency coordination, and community cooperation in ensuring maritime safety and protecting lives at sea.

CGSES continuously reminds all fisherfolk and mariners to remain vigilant, monitor weather advisories, and observe proper safety precautions before venturing out to sea, especially during unfavorable weather conditions.

πˆππ‚πˆπƒπ„ππ“ π‘π„ππŽπ‘π“: The Coast Guard District Southern Mindanao (CGDSM) successfully confiscated alleged smuggled ci******es with an estimated market value of Php 103,708.42 onboard M/V Rock Island while docked at Port of Makar Wharf in General Santos City today, May 28, 2026.

The operation stemmed from information relayed by Sea Marshal personnel of Coast Guard Sea Marshall Unit–South Eastern Mindanao (CGSMU-SEM), who observed suspicious luggage on board the passenger vessel plying the route from Balut Island, Sarangani to General Santos City. Consequently, a K9 paneling inspection was requested to verify the contents of the luggage.

Upon the vessel’s arrival at Makar Wharf at approximately 4AM, the composite CGDSM team including the Maritime Law Enforcement Group–Southern Mindanao (MARSLEG-SM), Security and Boarder Protection Unit–Southern Mindanao (SBPU-SM), Investigation and Detection Unit–Southern Mindanao (IDU-SM), K9-Explosive Ordnance Disposal (K9-EOD), Coast Guard K9 Field Operating Unit-Southern Mindanao (CG K9 FOU-SM), Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Makar, and Coast Guard Intelligence Group–Southern Mindanao (CGIG-SM) immediately boarded the vessel and conducted K9 paneling inspection for the possible presence of illegal drugs.

While no illegal drugs were detected, further inspection of the suspicious cartons and bags, conducted in the presence of the vessel’s crew, revealed 80 reams of CANNON ci******es and 41 reams of BARU ci******es believed to be smuggled items.

An inventory of the confiscated items was subsequently conducted. No individual claimed ownership of the suspicious luggage during the inspection and inventory process. Further investigation is being undertaken by CGIG-SM to determine the source and origin of the alleged smuggled ci******es.

The confiscated items were turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
