MUNICIPALITY OF LAGAWE HEIGHTENS DENGUE RESPONSE AS CASES SURGE
The Municipality of Lagawe has recorded a total of 34 confirmed dengue cases from January to July 2026, including two reported deaths, prompting local authorities to intensify measures against the spread of the disease.
Data from the Municipal Health Office revealed that while only one to three cases were recorded monthly from January to June, a significant increase was observed in July alone, with 22 confirmed cases, accounting for more than half of the municipalityโs total cases this year.
In response to the alarming rise, the Municipal Dengue Task Force convened an emergency meeting yesterday under the leadership of Mayor Leslie Roy H. Nayahangan and through the initiative of the Rural Health Unit, headed by Dr. Iza Layla Amorada.
The meeting focused on assessing the current dengue situation, identifying high-risk areas, and formulating immediate interventions to prevent further transmission. The Task Force agreed to intensify community-based dengue prevention efforts, including strengthened surveillance, intensified clean-up drives, source reduction activities, public information campaigns, and close coordination with barangay officials, schools, and partner agencies.
Mayor Nayahangan called on every household and community to actively participate in eliminating mosquito breeding sites, emphasizing that the fight against dengue requires the collective effort of every resident.
The Municipal Government of Lagawe also reminds the public to observe the 4S Strategy against Dengue:
โข Search and destroy mosquito breeding places.
โข Self-protection measures such as wearing long-sleeved clothing and using mosquito repellents.
โข Seek early consultation if experiencing fever lasting two days or more and other symptoms of dengue.
โข Support fogging or spraying only in hotspot areas where there is an impending outbreak.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant, maintain clean surroundings, and immediately report suspected dengue cases to their respective Barangay Health Workers or the Rural Health Unit for prompt medical attention.
