DENR PENRO Bohol and DENR CENRO Tagbilaran City conducted a joint plogging activity in Barangay Manga, Tagbilaran City. This event marked the official start of the Philippine Environment Month 2026 celebration under the nationwide theme: โInspired by Nature, for Climate, for Our Future.โ The activity commenced at Manga Bridge and concluded at the DENR PENRO Bohol Office, covering a distance of approximately 3 kilometers. Participants collected a total of 248 kilograms of waste, equivalent to 50 sacks, which consisted primarily of plastic wrappers, beverage bottles, and other discarded materials. Following the collection, a Unified Flag Raising Ceremony and Kickoff Program were held to formalize the institutional commitment to environmental management.
A total of 157 participants joined the activity, comprising 79 male and 78 female individuals from the DENR, partner agencies, stakeholders, and local volunteers. Private sector partners, including representatives from South Palms Resort Panglao and JPark Resort Panglao, were also in attendance. Security assistance was managed by the PNP Cortes, while the RHU Cortes provided medical personnel and a standby ambulance, operating in close coordination with Barangay Manga officials to ensure operational safety.
During the kickoff program, CENRO Glicerita Racho delivered the welcome remarks, expressing appreciation to all participating agencies, partners, and volunteers while emphasizing the role of community cooperation in strengthening environmental protection initiatives. PENRO Wilson Henson then delivered an institutional message highlighting individual and public responsibility in conservation. His remarks noted that environmental protection is an integral component of public service and individual duty, encouraging sustained, concrete action from all participants to build a sustainable legacy.
