PASAY CITY, June 4, 2026 — Authorities intercepted an inbound passenger arriving from Bangkok, Thailand, after discovering more than ₱13.3 million worth of suspected ma*****na, commonly known as "Kush," concealed inside his luggage at the Arrival Customs X-Ray Area of NAIA Terminal 1.

The operation began when a Bureau of Customs (BOC) x-ray operator detected suspicious contents inside a passenger’s luggage during routine screening. BOC personnel immediately coordinated with the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG), while a PDEA K9 Team conducted an inspection and obtained a positive indication for the presence of illegal drugs from Narcotics Detection Dog "Wh**ey."

A manual examination of the luggage, conducted in the passenger's presence, revealed multiple vacuum-sealed packages containing dried leaves. Subsequent verification by PDEA confirmed the substance to be approximately 8,910 grams of ma*****na (Kush) with an estimated standard drug price of ₱13,365,000.00.

The suspect was immediately arrested and informed of his constitutional rights in a language he understood. An alternative recording device was utilized throughout the interdiction and arrest process. The seized illegal drugs were properly marked and inventoried in the presence of media and barangay witnesses in compliance with legal procedures.

The suspect, together with the confiscated evidence, was later turned over to the NAIA-IADITG, PDEA for documentation and the filing of charges for violation of Section 4, Article II of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).

PNP STATEMENT ON THE HOSPITAL ARREST OF FORMER DPWH SECRETARY MANUEL M. BONOAN

The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirms that former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan was granted to be under hospital arrest pursuant to a Resolution issued by the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division.

The accused is presently under medical care in a private hospital where he has undergone a series of diagnostic procedures as part of his ongoing medical management. Upon clearance from his attending physician, appropriate arrangements will be made for his transfer to the PNP General Hospital (PNPGH), which is capable of providing specialized medical monitoring and custodial care.

The PNP is strictly implementing the court’s directive and has put in place the necessary security and custodial measures to ensure compliance with the conditions imposed by the court. All matters relating to the accused’s confinement and transfer shall remain subject to the orders and authority of the Sandiganbayan.

The PNP remains committed to the faithful enforcement of lawful court orders while ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of persons under its custody.

June 3, 2026 – A 61-year-old arriving passenger from Jeddah was arrested by operatives of the PNP Aviation Security Group (AVSEGROUP) and the Pasay City Police after a warrant of arrest for Frustrated Murder was served at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The suspect is currently under the custody of the Pasay City Police Station for proper documentation and detention, pending further legal proceedings and return to the court of origin.

NCR MOST WANTED NABBED IN CAPIZ; PNP CRACKS DOWN ON CARNAPPING, MURDER CASES

The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., scored a major accomplishment in its intensified campaign against wanted persons following the arrest of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Top 1 Regional Most Wanted Person during a joint intelligence-driven manhunt operation conducted by the Provincial Highway Patrol Team (PHPT) Capiz under the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 6 (RHPU 6) in Ivisan, Capiz, on June 1, 2026.

The arrested individual was likewise listed as the Top 1 Provincial Most Wanted Person, Top 1 Municipal Most Wanted Person, and Highway Patrol Group (HPG) Top 1 Most Wanted Person. Authorities successfully served warrants of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court, Branch 266, Taguig City, for alleged violation of Section 3 of Republic Act No. 10883, otherwise known as the Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016, and for Murder under Article 248 of the Revised Penal Code. Both warrants carried no recommended bail.

The successful operation underscores the sustained efforts of the PNP and its field units to locate and apprehend high-value fugitives facing serious criminal charges. Following the arrest, the suspect was brought to the PHPT Capiz Office for proper documentation and legal processing before being turned over to the issuing court.

“Hindi titigil ang PNP sa paghahanap sa mga taong umiiwas sa pananagutan. Ang bawat matagumpay na pag-aresto ay patunay na patuloy nating pinagtitibay ang pagpapatupad ng batas at ang karapatan ng mga biktima na makamit ang hustisya,” said PGEN Nartatez.

This accomplishment reflects the PNP Focused Agenda, a strategic direction for organizational transformation designed to make police service more responsive, accountable, and mission-driven. The operation particularly advances the key priority of Enhanced Managing Police Operations through intelligence-based law enforcement actions and sustained efforts against high-value fugitives.

“No matter how long it takes or where they choose to hide, individuals wanted for serious crimes will remain subject to the full force of the law. The PNP will continue pursuing those who threaten public safety and undermine peace in our communities,” PGEN Nartatez emphasized.

The arrest demonstrates the continuing commitment of the Philippine National Police to support the administration of justice through focused manhunt operations and proactive law enforcement initiatives aimed at bringing wanted persons before the courts.
