The landscape of higher education is undergoing a profound transformation as we integrate advanced technologies into the academic core.

In a continuation of Plenary Session 1, titled "The AI-Enhanced University: Redefining Higher Education for ASEAN’s Workforce," Engr. Javier Herminio D. Bautista, President of the University of Baguio, shared critical insights on navigating this digital shift.

The discussion emphasized that while AI offers immense transformational potential for ASEAN higher education, its successful implementation relies on more than just technical adoption. A central theme and final reflection of the session was that universities must lead this evolution with vision, ethics, and an unwavering commitment to human dignity and inclusion.

By focusing on these values, institutions can ensure that the AI-enhanced university remains a space that empowers the workforce while staying grounded in human-centric progress.

We officially launched our first plenary session at Bicol University with a compelling discussion led by Leilani D. Pavilando, PhD, the Executive Director of the Bicol University Development Foundation Inc.

During Plenary Session 1, titled "The AI-Enhanced University: Redefining Higher Education for ASEAN’s Workforce," the conversation centered on why this transformation is essential for our region. Dr. Pavilando addressed the urgency of adapting to rapid technological change and the growing digital economy within ASEAN, while specifically highlighting the critical need to bridge the current skills gap between academia and industry.

Despite a power interruption during her presentation, Dr. Pavilando’s exceptional passion for the topic shone through as she continued the discussion without hesitation, demonstrating a deep commitment to the future of inclusive and sustainable learning.

Her resilience set a powerful tone for the rest of the day as we explore how to strengthen ASEAN identity through global citizenship.
