Visayas State University, through the Regional Climate Change Research and Development Center, in collaboration with the Municipality of Bato, Leyte, successfully conducted the "๐ฌ๐ผ๐๐๐ต ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ ๐ง๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐น๐ถ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ฒ ๐ ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ด๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป, ๐๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฅ๐ถ๐๐ธ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป" at Bato, Leyte last August 27, 2026. The activity was part of their 2nd ASTIG Young Movers Congress in celebration of International, ASEAN, National Youth Day and Linggo ng Kabataan 2026.
Organized by the Local Youth Development Office of Bato, Leyte, through Mr. Dexter T. Ramirez, and together with the different youth organizations and Sangguniang Kabataan officials of Bato, we came together with one shared aspiration: to better understand how our environment, climate, hazards, and community vulnerabilities are interconnected, and most importantly, what we can do about them. Led by the center director, Engr, John Christian L. Gaviola, with the support of our affiliate experts, For. Chad Christian D. Wales, and Mr. Charlindo S. Torrion, the one-day training-workshop was filled with meaningful discussions, engaging activities, laughter, and collaborative learning.
With the climate crisis that the world is experiencing, the message is clear: climate change is not just an environmental issueโit is a community issue. And young people are not only future leaders. They are leaders today.
Thank you, LGU Bato! May the ideas, commitments, and partnerships formed during this training continue beyond the hall and into our communities.
Towards more resilient, sustainable, and climate-ready communities! ๐ช
