𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲
In its 9th year of recognizing excellence and contributions to the field of biotechnology, the Filipino Faces of Biotechnology (FFOB) Awards was conducted on December 5, at the PICC Complex in Pasay City.
Since 2016, the FFOB Awards have become a hallmark of recognition in the Philippine biotechnology landscape, lauding 66 individuals who have demonstrated outstanding dedication, creativity, and innovation in advancing biotechnological pursuits.
Modeled after the acclaimed Humans of New York, the FFOB Awards serve as a beacon of inspiration, bringing the achievements and personal stories of exceptional individuals who have significantly contributed to the progress of biotechnology in the Philippines to the forefront.
This year's awardees include outstanding individuals who have left an indelible mark on the landscape of biotechnology: 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐀𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨, 𝐌𝐬. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐚 𝐀𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐲𝐨, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐝𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐀. 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐚𝐧, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐨 (𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐞), 𝐃𝐫. 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐨 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐚, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐢ñ𝐞𝐧, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐝𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐨 𝐄. 𝐓𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐫. 𝐋𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐏. 𝐕𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐫. Present also during the event our last year’s FFOB awardee, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐮𝐟𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐨 𝐓. 𝐑𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐨.
The awarding of this year’s recipients is led by Department of Agriculture Undersecretary for Policy, Planning and Regulations, Atty. Asis G. Perez , and Biotechnology Program Office Director Dr. Paul C. Limson.
“𝘈𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘥𝘰 𝘮𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵—𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶—𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘴 𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘺, 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘤𝘶𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘯 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘣𝘪𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴,” said Usec. Perez, in his closing message.
Spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture - Biotechnology Program, the FFOB Awards is an esteemed annual event that recognizes and celebrates outstanding achievements in biotechnology.
