WHY MOST INFORMATION IS JUST NOISE 🙉Remember this classic encounter from Socrates, the father of critical thinking.
One day, an acquaintance ran up to Socrates, eager to share some gossip:
"Socrates, did you hear what they’re saying about your friend?"
Socrates held up a hand.
"Before you tell me, let’s run this through the Triple Filter Test."
1️⃣ THE FIRST FILTER: TRUTH
"Are you 100% certain that what you are about to tell me is true?"
The man hesitated. "Well, no... I just heard it from someone at the market."
"I see," Socrates nodded. "So you don't actually know if it's a fact."
2️⃣ THE SECOND FILTER: GOODNESS
"Is what you are about to tell me something GOOD about my friend?"
"Actually, it’s quite the opposite..."
"So," Socrates concluded, "you want to tell me something bad about him, even though you aren't sure it's even true?"
3️⃣ THE THIRD FILTER: USEFULNESS
"Is this information going to be USEFUL to me in any way?"
The man thought for a second. "No, not really."
THE FINAL VERDICT:
"If what you want to tell me is neither TRUE, nor GOOD, nor even USEFUL... then why tell me at all?"
💡 THE LOGIC FOR OUR DIGITAL AGE:
We live in an era of "Information Overload." Our newsfeeds are flooded with drama, unverified claims, and negativity. Socrates’ logic is the ultimate tool for digital hygiene:
✅ Protect your Mental Energy: Don't let your brain become a trash can for useless data.
✅ Integrity over Engagement: Just because it’s "trending" doesn't mean it's true or worth your time.
✅ Deep Thinking: Real wisdom isn't about knowing everything; it’s about knowing what to ignore.
In a world full of noise, be the person who values the signal.
Next time you encounter a piece of "news," ask yourself: Is it True? Is it Kind? Is it Useful? If the answer is No, let it go.
