The Malaybalay City Health Officeโ€“Nutrition Section successfully conducted the Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Forum 2026 last August 14, 2026, at the Barangay Managok Covered Court, Malaybalay City, bringing together pregnant and lactating mothers from different barangays in the Basakan District.

The activity was warmly welcomed by Barangay Kagawad Ely Encabo, who expressed support for initiatives that promote the health and well-being of mothers and children in the community. The forum served as an important avenue for participants to gain practical knowledge on proper maternal, infant, and young child nutrition.

A key highlight of the activity was the discussion on the First 1,000 Days, facilitated by City Nutrition Program Coordinator Rhea Paula N. Rara, RND. The discussion emphasized that the period from pregnancy until a childโ€™s second birthday is a critical window of opportunity for ensuring proper growth, development, and overall health. Participants were also oriented on appropriate Complementary Feeding, including the importance of providing nutritious, age-appropriate, and adequate foods to young children alongside continued breastfeeding.

The forum also encouraged active participation through an open forum, where mothers were given the opportunity to ask questions, share experiences, and clarify concerns regarding infant and young child feeding practices. This interactive session helped reinforce the importance of making informed and healthy feeding decisions at home.

The activity concluded with the awarding of certificates and a photo opportunity, marking the participantsโ€™ commitment to putting their learnings into practice and promoting proper nutrition among their families and communities.

Through the continued conduct of IYCF activities, the Malaybalay City Health Officeโ€“Nutrition Section, together with its community partners, remains committed to empowering parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills needed to provide proper nutrition during the critical early years of life.

With strengthened community participation and collective action, Malaybalay City continues to work toward healthier children, empowered families, and a well-nourished community.
