The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) paid its final respects to Intelligence Officer I Enfernie Jim Dayag, a dedicated law enforcement officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Dayagโ€™s remains made a stop at the PDEA Chapel, National Headquarters in Quezon City on August 11, 2026, where fellow officers, comrades, friends, and loved ones gathered for a heroโ€™s funeral ceremony to pay tribute to a life marked by courage, commitment, and selfless service to the Filipino people. His remains will then be brought to Baguio City, his hometown, where he will be laid to rest.

A member of the Drug Enforcement Officersโ€™ Basic Course (DEOBC) 2024-21 Class โ€œSANHIRAYA,โ€ Dayag was killed in a gunfight with armed and dangerous suspects following a buy-bust operation in Barangay Paniongan, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, in the early morning of August 9, 2026.

โ€œAgent Dayag gave his life in the service of the Filipino people. His courage in the face of danger is a testament to the dedication and selflessness of our drug enforcement officers. We mourn the loss of a fellow officer, but we also honor the legacy of a true public servant who stood firm in the fulfillment of his duty,โ€ said PDEA Director General Undersecretary Isagani R Nerez.

PDEA extended its deepest condolences to Dayagโ€™s family and loved ones, assuring them that his sacrifice will forever remain part of the Agencyโ€™s history and will never be forgotten by the men and women with whom he served.

โ€œNo family should have to bear the pain of losing a loved one in the line of duty. We share the grief of Officer Dayagโ€™s family, and we stand with them as we honor his life and sacrifice. His service reminds us of the risks our personnel willingly face each day to keep our communities safe,โ€ DG Nerez added.

As PDEA bids farewell to one of its own, the Agency remembers Dayag not only for the circumstances of his passing, but also for the courage, honor, and dedication with which he lived and served.

His courage will be remembered.
His service will be honored
His sacrifice will never be forgotten.
May he rest in eternal peace.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) welcomed 90 new Drug Enforcement Officer (DEO) trainees as the Drug Enforcement Officers Basic Course (DEOBC) Class 2026-23 formally commenced its six-month regimented training during oath-taking and reception rites held Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the PDEA Academy, Camp General Mariano N. Castaรฑeda, Silang, Cavite.

The ceremony marked the traineesโ€™ first step toward a career in drug enforcement and their future role in strengthening the countryโ€™s efforts against illegal drugs.

The 90-member class successfully hurdled a rigorous selection process that included pre-examination processing, medical and dental examinations, physical fitness testing, neuropsychological evaluation, background investigation, and panel interviews conducted through testing centers nationwide.

โ€œToday, you take your first step toward a career that demands courage, discipline, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to public service. You are here not only to earn the badge, but also to earn the trust of the Filipino people and help protect communities from the harm caused by illegal drugs,โ€ PDEA Director General Undersecretary Isagani R. Nerez said.

The six-month DEOBC is designed to equip the trainees with the knowledge, skills, discipline, and values necessary to perform their duties as drug enforcement officers. The training program covers basic management and leadership, communication enhancement, community-based anti-illegal drug advocacy, legal studies, anti-illegal drug intelligence and tactics, interdiction operations, investigation, and other academic and non-academic activities.

DG Nerez emphasized that the training aims not only to develop competent and effective drug enforcement officers, but also principled public servants who will uphold the law while respecting the rights, dignity, and welfare of the communities they serve.

Despite the recent passing of one of its agents, PDEA continues to see strong interest from individuals who aspire to join the Agency and serve the Filipino people. The continued interest reflects the commitment of aspiring drug enforcement officers to public service and their willingness to take on the responsibilities and challenges that come with the profession.

โ€œThe road ahead will be demanding, but every challenge you overcome will prepare you for the responsibility that awaits you. Serve with honor, act with integrity, and always remember the people you have sworn to protect,โ€ the PDEA Chief concluded.

For the 90 trainees of DEOBC Class 2026-23, their journey toward becoming drug enforcement officers has officially begun. Through sustained recruitment and professional training, PDEA continues to strengthen its workforce and enhance its operational capacity in support of the governmentโ€™s national campaign against illegal drugs.

PDEA remains committed to developing a highly capable, professional, and dedicated drug enforcement workforce in support of a safer and more secure Philippines.
