Their project, “Understanding the Food System of an Urban Jail Community Toward a Sustainable Food Security Plan,” highlights how academic research can spark meaningful change and promote sustainable solutions for communities.

Join us as we launch Mabuhay Treats, a project headed by the Tourism Management Department in partnership with FEU CES and ITHM, showcasing the authentic handcrafted products of the Mangyan groups of Mindoro and Manila City Jail BJMP Female Dormitory. This initiative reflects our commitment to community development and cultural appreciation. The FEU community may now purchase these artisanal items in front of Café Alfredo and support the livelihood of our partner community.

In celebration of the 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬’ 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, the 𝑭𝒂𝒓 𝑬𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 (𝑭𝑬𝑼) 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑬𝒙𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑺𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒔 (𝑪𝑬𝑺) and the 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒕𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒓𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔 (𝑰𝑨𝑺) – 𝑫𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝒔𝒚𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚, in collaboration with the 𝑫𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒅 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒂𝒏 𝑱𝒐𝒔𝒆 (𝑫𝑾𝑪𝑺𝑱) and the 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒚𝒂𝒏 𝑬𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑪𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓 (𝑴𝑬𝑪), successfully held the 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 last 𝑶𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒃𝒆𝒓 23–25, 2025.

The three-day camp served as a platform for 𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝒆𝒙𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕, featuring a series of engaging activities that highlighted the 𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒆, 𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒚, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒚𝒂𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉.

Faculty members and student volunteers from FEU’s Department of Psychology facilitated seminar-workshops promoting personal growth, leadership, and well-being. Dr. William Ongsitco and Mrs. Arbie Diane Flores-Davantes led insightful discussions on 𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇-𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒆𝒎 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒆𝒎 among Mangyan youth. On the other hand, Sam Angelica Baticos, president of the FEU Psychology Society conducted a 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 seminar, while Mx. Rolf Gian Marcos and Ms. Catherine Jhoi Mamawan facilitated interactive sessions on 𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒆𝒙𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚, 𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄 𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍-𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈. Other Psychology student volunteers also provided assistance throughout the event.

Adding warmth to the camp, Chef Aleli Aseremo, CES Project Leader, with Hospitality Management students showcased their culinary expertise by preparing hearty meals and refreshments for all participants.

Through this initiative, FEU CES and the IAS – Department of Psychology reaffirm their commitment to 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉, 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒅𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝑷𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒔’ 𝑴𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒉, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒂𝒚-𝒕𝒐-𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔.

Far Eastern University (FEU) was recognized as one of three national winners of the People Program of the Year at the 49th People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) Awards.

FEU earned the distinction for its transformative Bread of HOPE program, an initiative born from the university’s long-standing partnership with the Manila City Jail Female Dormitory.

The program empowers Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) by providing them with hands-on bakery training and livelihood opportunities.

Beyond income generation, the program is recognized for its lasting social impact, demonstrating how education, rehabilitation, and collaboration can restore dignity and build hope—even behind bars.

The award was announced during the 2025 PMAP Annual Conference in Cebu City.

We never thought a simple pandesal baking program for persons deprived of liberty would lead to this recognition.

Bread of HOPE - a community service that comes from the heart, an interdisciplinary team effort believing in each ones vital contribution, a program with humanistic and transformative value, and most of all, a program that embodies the vision-mission of FEU.

From the hardworking team who quietly and patiently worked on Bread of HOPE since 2021, our deepest gratitude to the People Management Association of the Philippines for this recognition given on October 23, 2025 at Cebu City.
