Lakas ng Tomasino, Laban sa Agos ng Abusado.

Kasabay ng lumalalang baha sa bansa ang agos ng korapsyon mula sa ating gobyerno. Ang pondong dapat pananggalang sa kalamidad ay kinurakot ng mga dapat naglilingkod sa taumbayan. Bilang mga Tomasino, ramdam natin lagi ang bigat ng ganitong kalamidad sa ating unibersidad at sa ating bayan. Kaya sa darating na mga araw, sama-sama tayong lumabas, manindigan, at igiit ang hustisya laban sa katiwalian at panunupil. Hindi tayo palulubugin ng baha ng korapsyon dahil tayo ang aagos ng pagbabago.

Mariing kinokondena ng Lakas Tomasino Coalition ang desisyon ng Korte Suprema na ipatigil ang impeachment case laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte. Isa itong tahasang pagtataksil hindi lamang sa tiwala ng publiko, kundi pati sa Saligang Batas na malinaw na nagtatakda ng impeachment bilang pamamaraan upang panagutin ang mga matataas na opisyal sa harap ng mamamayang Pilipino.

Nananatiling hindi nasasagot ang serye ng mga pang-aabuso na kinakaharap ni VP Sara: ang paggasta ng Php 125 milyong confidential funds ng Office of the Vice President sa loob lamang ng 11 araw; ang kaduda-duda na paggamit ng Php 612.5 milyong pondo sa OVP at Department of Education, at ang paggamit ng social media upang lapastanganin at takutin ang mga halal na opisyal at kritiko ng pamahalaan. Dagdag pa ang mga alegasyon ng panunuhol at katiwalian, dapat lamang sagutin ni VP Sara ang pagtataksil sa tiwala ng bayan.

Ang proseso ng paglilitis ay nakatuon sa pagtupad ng katotohanan, pananagutan, at kabutihang panlahat. Ang mga kaanib na partido sa Lakas Tomasino Coalition, kasama ang iba pang mga organisasyon at lider-kabataan, ay isa sa mga lumagda sa kaso ng impeachment noong nakaraang Disyembre. Matapos ang ilang buwang panawagan para sa pananagutan, nakita natin kung paano naantala ang proseso dahil sa kawalan ng konkretong pasya ng Senado. Ngayon, tuluyang pinigil ng Korte Suprema ang pag-usad tungo sa hustisya. Sa hakbanging ito, ipinagkait sa taumbayan ang karapatang pumili na magsampa ng kaso, ang pagkakataong maningil ng pananagutan, at ang pagkilos tungo sa tunay na pagbabago.

Mabigat ang batas, ngunit ito ay batas. Gayunman, kailangang maging mapagmatyag tayo sa mga teknikalidad na maaaring gamitin upang hadlangan ang pananagutan at balewalain ang katarungan.

LTC’s statement on the 39th anniversary of the People Power Revolution!

Today, on its 39th anniversary, the flame and spirit of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution lives on with the Thomasian community. The Lakas Tomasino Coalition echoes the clamor to continue standing in solidarity against impunity, corruption, and repression. WE REMEMBER.

The EDSA spirit has shown to the world how the Filipino people redefined “revolution.” While this historic day is diminished to merely be a “special working holiday,” the solidarity and courage of the Filipino people in the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution can never be tarnished. No attempt of denial, distortion, and historical revisionism of this turning point in Philippine history can truly succeed as the Filipino will always strive to bring forth the values and sacrifices made for People Power. NEVER FORGET.

The Thomasian studentry was at the forefront in that decade of struggle, being the first in the country to reestablish student councils in school after the government prohibited their formation. As we remember those who have suffered imprisonment, torture, and death during the country’s darkest times, we commemorate today the restoration of democracy and toppling of dictatorship through the sheer will of the people who collectively prayed the rosary as they marched on EDSA Avenue. The Lakas Tomasino Coalition, imbued with the spirit of EDSA, will continue to empower the Thomasian studentry with the power to genuinely CHOOSE the leaders that they want, and the CHANCE to make gradual, efficient, and lawful CHANGE.

The Lakas Tomasino Alumni Association grieves the passing of our beloved mother Ligaya Piadoche Cordova more known as Nanay Gay of Heaven’s Taste Carinderia. She has been there for almost all of our candidates and have touched the lives of most student leaders in UST.
