The Islam in Southeast Asia Traveling Classroom (ISEATraC) 2026 wraps up with final sessions in Yogyakarta. The participants arrived in the historic city on 26 July 2026 and were met by history students from the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). On 27 July, they participated in two lectures, โHistory of the Mataram Kingdom and its Islamic Legaciesโ by Dr. Sri Margana, S.S., M.Hum, historian and lecturer from the UGM History Department; followed by โIslamic Culture in Modern Yogyakarta and Central Javaโ by Dr. Wildan Sena Utama, also from the UGM History Department. On 28 July, the ISEATraC team visited the Borobudur Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Central Java. On their final classroom day, 29 July, the participants visited the Grand Mosque of Yogyakarta, the Palace of the Sultan of Yogyakarta, and shared their Classroom Essays with other participants during the final sharing session. The Japanese students from Yamagata University also shared their insights from the whole traveling classroom experience.
ISEATraC is a collaborative project of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines and SEASREP Foundation under the 2030 Year of Philippine Muslim History and Heritage. It aims to promote research and awareness on the richness of Muslim Filipino history and culture through its close connections with Islam and Muslim culture around Southeast Asia. 12 participating students selected from various Mindanao universities represent the ISEATraC 2026 class.
