I welcomed a delegation from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), led by Bahrain Chargé d’Affaires Abdulla Mohamed H. Al-Karbabadi, to discuss the reactivation of the GCC’s Wafid Program in the Philippines.

The delegation presented how the Wafid Program streamlines health screening services for GCC-bound overseas workers, including Filipino workers. I was also joined by OWWA Deputy Administrators Ryan Vincent L. Uy and Jasmine Ann B. Gapatan for this productive discussion on strengthening cooperation for the welfare of our OFWs.

It was an honor to represent the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in leading the launch of “Waves of Hope: A Legacy of Shared Humanity,” a commemorative exhibition organized in partnership with the Department of Justice (DOJ), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the Ayala Museum.

The exhibition commemorates the 75th Anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and the 45th Anniversary of the Philippines’ accession to the Convention—milestones that reaffirm our country’s longstanding commitment to protecting refugees and upholding the principles of international humanitarian law.

The Philippines has long stood as a nation that offers refuge to those fleeing conflict and persecution. This exhibition serves as a powerful reminder that compassion, solidarity, and shared humanity remain at the heart of our engagement with the international community.

As we reflect on this important legacy, we also renew our commitment to working with our partners to ensure that those forced to flee are treated with dignity, protected under international law, and given hope for a better future.

International Day of UN Peacekeepers

On Friday, 29 May 2026, I had the honor of leading the Department of Foreign Affairs’ commemoration of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, recognizing the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of the men and women who serve in UN peace operations around the world.

The Philippines remains steadfast in its support for the United Nations and its peacekeeping efforts, reflecting our enduring commitment to international peace, security, and multilateral cooperation. Through the service of Filipino peacekeepers, police personnel, military officers, and civilian experts, our country continues to contribute to protecting vulnerable communities and promoting stability in conflict-affected areas.

This observance also reflects President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s assurance that the Philippines will remain a voice of service and principled peace in the international community. As we honor our peacekeepers, we reaffirm our belief that dialogue, cooperation, respect for international law, and collective action remain essential foundations for a more peaceful and secure world.

To all Filipino peacekeepers, past and present, thank you for your service and for bringing honor to our nation through your commitment to peace and humanity.
