Registration is now open: Impact of Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and AI on Sustainable Development in Asia Workshop

The online workshop will be hosted by ADB in collaboration with Leiden Law School, the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy in India, Universidad CEU San Pablo in Spain, and Qatar University.

Day 1 will focus on the regional implications of CBAM, while Day 2 will examine digital emissions and conclude with a proposal for a Sustainable Green AI policy. The workshop is open to academics, government officials, and policy makers from the EU, regional, and international organizations.

ADB invites you to register for the 2025 edition of the e-learning course on Decentralization, Local Governance, and Localizing SDGs in Asia and the Pacific. The tutored e-learning program is designed to address the learning needs of ADB staff and government officials of ADB’s Developing Member Countries.

The course is designed to include self-paced and self-managed content study and activities such as self-assessment and peer-to-peer consultations. Two tutors will guide participants through the course, provide support, and respond to thematic queries and inputs from the participants.

INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON MANAGING FOR DEVELOPMENT RESULTS
“UNIFIED DIVERSITY FOR RESTORATION: COLLABORATIVE LOCAL EFFORTS FOR CLIMATE CHANGE”
14-15 NOVEMBER 2023

The Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s Public Sector Management and Governance (PSMG) Group, the Korea Development Institute (KDI) School of Public Policy and Management, and the African Development Bank (AfDB) are jointly organizing an International Seminar on Management for Development Results (MfDR) “Unified Diversity for Restoration: Collaborative Local Efforts for Climate Change” from November 14th to November 15th, 2023. The seminar will explore innovative endeavors undertaken by subnational or local governments in addressing climate change in the region, in alignment with national and global initiatives. By sharing innovative approaches and jointly examining common challenges, the event will delve into effective ways forward in strengthening the institutional capacities and resilience of subnational governments, and the political, legal, and fiscal contexts in which they operate.

Day 1 (14 November) will focus on Global-to-local and National-to-local coordination for local responses to climate change, and Day 2 will shift the emphasis to local climate change actions within regional or inter-regional context.

𝑨 𝒇𝒆𝒘 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒂 𝒑𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕:

👉 New shows that tax revenues increased in 1⃣9⃣ out of 2⃣7⃣ economies in Asia Pacific in 2021. But only 4⃣ of the 8⃣ economies we have data for in the saw similar rebounds.

👉 The average tax-to-GDP ratio in Asia Pacific rose by 0.2 percentage points in 2021 (to 19.8%). While moving in the right direction, recovery (on avg) was 0.4% weaker than OECD country increases in the same year.

👉 Rebounding int'l trade, higher commodity prices (esp. in Central Asia), and re-opening to tourism boosted tax-to-GDP ratios in a number of Asia Pacific economies in 2021.

👉 𝐓𝐚𝐱-𝐭𝐨-𝐆𝐃𝐏 ratios across Asia-Pacific ranged from 9.7% in Lao PDR to 36.6% in Nauru in 2021. Mongolia saw the largest ⤴️ in tax-to-GDP ratios (up by 3.0 p.p.) thanks, in part, to higher corporate income tax revenues.
