On the Incident at Ateneo de Zamboanga University – Junior High School

The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education shares in the grief of the families and the Ateneo de Zamboanga University community following the shooting incident at its Junior High School campus on 18 August 2026.

We mourn the lives lost and convey our sincere condolences to their families and loved ones. We also offer our prayers for the recovery of those who were injured and for the learners, educators, personnel, and families affected by this tragedy.

As the Education Ministry of the Bangsamoro, we share the concern of the broader education community and are reminded of our collective responsibility to safeguard the welfare and safety of every learner.

We recognize that the competent authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. We therefore appeal for restraint and responsibility in public discussion. We ask everyone to respect the dignity and privacy of the children and families involved and to avoid circulating violent footage, personal information, or claims that have not been officially verified.

The MBHTE stands in solidarity with the Ateneo de Zamboanga University community. May Allah grant mercy to those who lost their lives, healing to the injured, comfort to the bereaved families, and strength to the entire Ateneo de Zamboanga University community.
