For two days, student-journalists, school paper advisers, and campus press advocates gathered in the City of Mati for a shared goal: to strengthen how we practice campus journalism. The sessions focused on writing discipline, ethics, verification, and the responsibility that comes with telling real stories in real communities.
As Vice-Chairperson of the SP Committee on Education, I appreciate everyone who made this first-ever 2-day journalism workshop possible in the city.
Thank you to our resource speakers Sir Adrian, Sir Philips, Sir Ivan, Sir Justin, Sir Arvin, and Sir JC for sharing practical insights that directly shaped the learning experience of our participants. Appreciation as well to Davao Oriental Regional Science High School for hosting the event.
Gratitude also goes to the Office of Provincial Vice Governor Glenda Rabat-Gayta, Vice Mayor Enzo Rabat, Councilor Paolo โKuya Paoโ Rabat, SK Federated President Thomas Sebellino, DepEd SDO Mati City, and all partners who supported this initiative.
To my SP Office Team, Project Heads Stephene Maynopas and Jash Gayta, and our logistics team led by Jay Mengote and Caryl Morales, thank you for the steady work behind the scenes.
To all student-journalists and advisers, thank you for showing up and participating with focus and intent. This program only worked because of your presence and engagement.
This is one step in building a stronger youth voice in our community. The work continues.
