Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental Heightens Coastal Monitoring and Security Measures Amid Tsunami Advisory

The Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental, together with all its Sub-Stations, has intensified coastal security operations following the advisory of the Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) regarding the possible arrival of tsunami waves between 1:20 PM and 2:40 PM today, 30 July 2025.

As part of its heightened alert status, CGS Davao Oriental has:
โ€ข Activated its Deployable Response Group (DRG) to ensure readiness for immediate search and rescue operations.
โ€ข Released a Notice to all Mariners (NOTAM) to alert maritime stakeholders of the situation.
โ€ข Deployed continuous coastal security patrols across its area of responsibility to monitor maritime activity and ensure the safety of coastal communities.
โ€ข Monitored sea level changes in real time in coordination with other concerned government agencies.

The Coast Guard emphasized that these proactive measures are intended to safeguard residents and maritime stakeholders in vulnerable areas. Local government units and coastal barangays have been advised to remain vigilant and to strictly follow the guidance of authorities.

Commander, CGS Davao Oriental assured the public that the Coast Guard, in collaboration with LGUs and disaster response units, is on full alert and ready to respond to any untoward incident related to the tsunami advisory.

The public is reminded to stay tuned to official advisories from DOST-PHIVOLCS, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) for updates.

NOTICE TO ALL MARINERS NUMBER 011-2025

Notice is hereby given to all mariners and other concerned that:

1. Reference: PHILVOCS-DOST

2. Based on the revised magnitude calculations and tsunami wave models in the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, coastal areas in the Philippines fronting the Pacific Ocean are expected to experience tsunami wave height of less than one (1) meter. The first tsunami waves are expected to arrive between 01:20 PM to 02:40 PM, 30 Jul 2025 (PST). It may not be the largest and these waves may continue for hours.

3. In this connection, ALL TRIPS of ships/watercrafts regardless of gross tonnage and fisher folks operating particularly in the area of responsibility of Davao Oriental are hereby SUSPENDED until further notice. Moreover, Boat Captains/Operators of small sea watercrafts are advised to take precautionary measures and continue to monitor the (PHILVOCS-DOST) forecast.

4. Further, advised all residents and tourists to stay away near the coastal areas and refrain from conducting any sea-water related activities to avoid maritime incident and for safety of everybody.

5. Your cooperation in affecting widest dissemination of this advisory is highly encouraged.

TWO INDONESIAN FISHERMEN WHO WERE REPORTED MISSING WERE RESCUED

On 11 July 2025, two Indonesian fishermen were successfully rescued by Light Boat Regina along the high seas at coordinates 07ยฐ16'54.193" N, 129ยฐ24'48.098" E. The two rescued fishermen named Fritz Maarial, 31 years old, married and Yusuf Beba, 43 years old, both residents of Dapalan Village, Tampana District, Talaud Regency, Indonesia had been reported missing since July 1, 2025.

Upon their safe arrival at Sitio Tambak, Macambol, Mati City, Davao Oriental for sheltering due to adverse weather conditions brought by cyclone "Crising", the rescued individuals were immediately turned over to CGS Davao Oriental, where they received essential medical attention, food, and other basic necessities. After ensuring their well-being, CGS Davao Oriental coordinated with the Bureau of Immigration for the proper turnover of the foreign nationals.

The swift and compassionate response of CGS Davao Oriental highlighted the unwavering commitment to maritime safety, international cooperation, and humanitarian assistance. Their efforts not only saved lives but also reinforced a strong regional maritime relations.

The CGS Davao Oriental remains steadfast in its duty to protect lives, regardless of nationality and uphold the values of compassion and service.

Brigada Eskwela, spearheaded by the Department of Education, is an annual initiative that brings together volunteers from various sectors to help clean, repair, and refurbish public schools ahead of the opening of classes. This yearโ€™s theme, โ€œBayanihan para sa Matatag na Paaralanโ€, calls for collective action to ensure safe and conducive learning environments for Filipino students.

Personnel from Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental, led by Station Commander, ๐—Ÿ๐—–๐——๐—ฅ ๐—ฉ๐—œ๐—ก๐—–๐—˜๐—ก๐—ง ๐—•๐—ฅ๐—ฌ๐—”๐—ก ๐—  ๐— ๐—”๐—ฅ๐—–๐—ข๐—ฆ, joined school officials, teachers, parents, and other community volunteers in various tasks such as repainting classrooms, repairing desks, cleaning school grounds, and trimming overgrown vegetation.

The Coast Guardโ€™s involvement was warmly welcomed by the school administration, expressing gratitude for the volunteers' time, effort, and tools provided. Their presence also served as a positive example of civic responsibility and public service to the students and the community.

Through initiatives like Brigada Eskwela, Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental continues to strengthen its role as a reliable partner in nation-building, beyond maritime safety and law enforcement.
