September 3, 2026 – Under the supervision of π…πˆππ’π π‚π‹π˜πƒπ„ 𝐉𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐄 𝐒 π’πˆππ†π”π, Acting Municipal Fire Marshal, personnel of the BFP Narra Fire Station actively participated in and assisted in the successful conduct of the Nationwide Simultaneous School Safety Drill (NSSSD) held at DumangueΓ±a National High School, Narra, Palawan, in collaboration with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Narra, concerned government agencies, and school authorities.

The activity involved the implementation of established emergency preparedness and response procedures, including proper evacuation, orderly movement of students and school personnel to designated assembly areas, and coordination among participating agencies and responders. BFP personnel provided assistance and guidance to ensure the proper observance of fire and life safety protocols throughout the activity.

The drill aimed to enhance the preparedness and awareness of students, teachers, and school personnel, strengthen inter-agency coordination and communication, and assess the school's capability to respond effectively and safely during emergencies. It also emphasized the importance of preparedness, discipline, and collective action in ensuring the safety and protection of the school community.

The Narra municipal government is seeking long-term flood-control measures from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as recurring flooding continues to disrupt residents and traffic in Barangay Poblacion during heavy rains.

Acting Mayor Jojo Gastanes raised the concern during a meeting with DPWH 2nd District Engineering Office OIC-District Engineer Rochel D. Hermano on August 29.

Local officials and DPWH representatives discussed possible causes of the flooding, including inadequate drainage, as well as potential drainage and flood-control projects that could reduce the impact of rising water.

The condition of bridges that are affected when floodwaters rise during the rainy season was also included in the discussions.

Residents said floodwaters can rise quickly in Poblacion during periods of heavy rain, affecting homes, road traffic and daily activities.

Gastanes said the local government sought DPWH intervention because recurring flooding poses continuing risks to residents and requires a solution beyond short-term responses.

β€œHindi natin hahayaang palagi na lamang lubog sa baha ang ating mga kabarangay sa tuwing sasapit ang ulan. Ang pakikipagtulungan sa DPWH ay mahalaga upang maibigay natin ang pangmatagalang solusyon sa problemang ito,” Gastanes said.

Hermano committed to elevate the municipality’s concerns to the DPWH Regional Office for further assessment and discussion.

The municipal government said bringing the issue to the regional level could help facilitate the assessment and possible funding of infrastructure projects needed to address flooding in Poblacion.

Narra officials said they will continue coordinating with the DPWH on flood-control measures intended to improve safety and accessibility for residents of Poblacion and other flood-prone areas of the municipality.
