The National Nutrition Council โ National Capital Region (NNC-NCR), led by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa Federizo, successfully held the first meeting of the year for the Nutrition Communication Resource Group โ NCR (NCRยฒ) on June 4, 2026, at the St. Giles Hotel in Makati City.
The meeting brought together local nutrition committee (LNC) page managers and public information officers (PIOs) from the 17 local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila to discuss key initiatives to strengthen nutrition communication, enhance digital engagement, and prepare for the 2026 Nutrition Month celebration.
A message from the NCR2 Chair, Mr. Marvin Capco, underscored the importance of sustained collaboration among local nutrition committees and PIOs across LGUs to advance effective and consistent nutrition information across digital platforms. RNPC Federizo presented highlights of the previous meeting. During the meeting, the mechanics for the 2026 Regional Webby Awardsโan offshoot of the national NNC Webby Awardsโwere introduced, emphasizing continued efforts to promote high-quality, creative, and impactful nutrition communication across LGU-managed platforms. This yearโs celebration carries the theme โ๐ฆ๐ฎ ๐ฃ๐ฃ๐๐ก: ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐บ๐ฎ-๐๐ฎ๐บ๐ฎ ๐๐ฎ ๐ก๐๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐๐ผ๐ป๐ด ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ ๐๐ฎ ๐๐ฎ๐ต๐ฎ๐โ and the sub-theme โ๐ก๐๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐๐ผ๐ป ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐ธ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐ป, ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐ด๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ป,โ emphasizing the link between nutrition security and environmental sustainability.
RNPC Federizo also proposed reactivating the NCR Writersโ Guild further to strengthen nutrition advocacy and content development across the region. The Guild is envisioned as a pool of writers comprising Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians (RNDs) from the 17 LGUs who will develop evidence-based nutrition articles, feature stories, and other nutrition-related content for NNC-NCR platforms. It will also serve as a capacity-building mechanism to enhance technical writing skills among RNDs in the LGUs and to ensure that nutrition messages remain accurate, accessible, and locally relevant.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment among LGUs to strengthen nutrition communication, maximize the use of digital platforms for advocacy, and continue championing nutrition initiatives that promote healthier communities across the region.
