“Chiquiting”, as he is fondly known, was born in the City of Bais, Negros Oriental on the 1st of November 1956. Congressman Chiquiting is happily married to Ma. Longa from Tanjay City. Though a chemist by education, having graduated with a course of BS Chemistry from Silliman University, Congressman Chiquiting succeeds in the world of entrepreneu
rs. He is the man behind the success of known local business establishments in the city like Scooby’s fast food chain and internet cafes, Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries, and Chin Loong Restaurant, among others. He is President and CEO of various corporations in the city, Board Member of Rural Bank of Bacong, Negros Oriental Planters' Association (NOPA, Inc.), and Manuel Teves, Inc., and CEO of Tanjay Cable TV, Inc. He garnered various awards, such as Presidential Award from the Junior Chamber of the Philippines, Outstanding Club President of Rotary Club-Dumaguete South, and Golden Leadership – National Awardee by the United Group of Charities and Human Development, Inc. He also serves in various capacities in the different business and civic clubs in the city and in the province notable of which was being President of Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI), a Lifetime Member of the Senate of Junior Chamber International of which he was a JCI Senator, President of Rotary Club-Dumaguete South, and member of Negros Oriental Hotels, Resorts and Restaurants Association (NOHHRA). Before becoming a Congressman in 2016, Hon. Chiquiting Sagarbarria was the City Mayor of Dumaguete City from 2010 to 2016. During his administration, Dumaguete City garnered over forty (40) awards from various institutions. Thus, he is acclaimed as the mayor in Dumaguete City to win the most awards in two terms. In 2001 to 2010, he was also a City Councilor of Dumaguete City. During which, he was the Philippine Councilors’ League (PCL) – Negros Oriental Federation’s Business Manager from 2004 to 2007 and PCL’s National Vice Chairman for Visayas Island in 2007 to 2010. He works on a platform of synergy which signifies partnerships with the private sector, team work within various departments and other agencies and consultations with the citizenry. Collaboration, collective action and empowerment of the people are his vehicles through which the district will attain all its goals in a systematic, professional, and compassionate manner.
