The Local Government Unit of New Bataan, under the leadership of Mayor Atty. Bianca Cualing-Brua, has initiated preparations for the upcoming Site Assessment of Potential Tourist Destinations in Barangay Manurigao, scheduled this September.
As part of the initial preparations, the Public Information and Tourism Services Section conducted a coordination meeting with IP Leaders and Clan Representatives of Barangay Manurigao on August 26, 2026, at the Municipal Tribal Office. The meeting aimed to establish coordination with the concerned communities and clan claimants and discuss the proposed assessment activities.
For years, Manurigaoโs natural attractions have remained without a formal tourism assessment. Recognizing their potential, the LGU is taking the initiative to conduct an initial assessment to better understand the tourism potential, accessibility, safety, environmental considerations, and development needs of the identified sites.
The LGU emphasized that the site assessment does not constitute authorization for the official launching or opening of the identified sites to the public. Rather, it will serve as an important first step in determining their potential and suitability for future tourism development, subject to the findings, assessment results, and recommendations of the assessment team.
Further coordination meetings will be conducted in the coming days to finalize the necessary arrangements and secure the consent and support of the concerned barangay and clan claimants.
Through this initiative, the LGU New Bataan aims to take the first concrete step toward discovering, assessing, and responsibly developing the tourism potential of Manurigao, while ensuring that future tourism initiatives remain community-centered, environmentally responsible, and respectful of Indigenous Peoplesโ rights and interests.
