Municipality of Upi Upi is a first-class municipality located in the Province of Maguindanao del Norte.

It comprises 23 landlocked barangays and spans an area of 555.7446 square kilometers. The municipality is home to a diverse population of 65,363 residents (PSA 2024).

The Municipality of Upi proudly celebrates another milestone as the Rempes Modern Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (REMFAC) brings honor not only to the local coffee industry but also to the province and the country through its remarkable achievements in specialty coffee.

Under the leadership of Chairperson Mrs. Justina A. Pari-an, REMFAC has earned prestigious recognition in both regional and international competitions, highlighting the exceptional quality of coffee produced by Upi's hardworking farmers.

One of the cooperative's recent accomplishments is being named among the Top 9 Specialty Robusta Green Coffee entries in the Philippines during the Southeast Asia Green Coffee Competition 2026 โ€“ Philippine National Round. Representing REMFAC, Mrs. Pari-an showcased the cooperative's premium Robusta coffee, which achieved an outstanding cupping score of 85.04, meeting internationally recognized specialty coffee standards.

Adding to this success, REMFAC also received the Bronze Medal at the AVPA Paris Gourmet Award 2026, held by the Agence pour la Valorisation des Produits Agricoles (AVPA) in Paris, France. The award was conferred during the 12th International Contest of Coffees Roasted at Origin, where the cooperative's coffee was recognized for its exceptional aroma, flavor, roast quality, balance, and overall gourmet excellence by an international panel of coffee experts.

These achievements reaffirm the growing reputation of Upi as a producer of world-class specialty coffee. They also reflect the dedication of local coffee farmers, whose commitment to quality, sustainable farming practices, and continuous innovation has enabled Upi coffee to compete successfully on the global stage.

Under the leadership of Mayor Ma. Rona Cristina "Tintin" Piang-Flores, the Local Government Unit of Upi has procured one (1) brand-new 2026 Toyota Hilux Conquest Service Utility Vehicle to strengthen the operations of the Sangguniang Bayan.

The vehicle was formally inspected and accepted by the General Services Office (GSO), together with Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Abdila Alabat, who serves as the end user.

Made possible with the support of the Sangguniang Bayan led by Vice Mayor Alabat, the newly acquired service vehicle will be officially utilized by the Office of the Municipal Vice Mayor in carrying out legislative functions and delivering more efficient public service to the people of Upi.

The Local Government Unit of Upi, through the leadership of Municipal Mayor Hon. Ma. Rona Cristina A. Piang-Flores, participated in the Ad Hoc Committee Final Deliberation for the CY 2026 Philippine National Police (PNP) Attrition Quota Recruitment, held at the Conference Room of the Municipal Hall.

The activity was conducted in collaboration with the Upi Municipal Police Station (MPS) under the leadership of PCPT Julius L. Yutob, Acting Chief of Police, together with the members of the Ad Hoc Screening Committee.

During the deliberation, the committee carefully evaluated the qualifications of the applicants and verified their documentary requirements to ensure a fair, transparent, and merit-based recruitment process in accordance with the standards and guidelines of the Philippine National Police.

The participation of the LGU Upi underscores its continued commitment to promoting integrity, accountability, and excellence in public service by supporting transparent recruitment processes that identify competent and service-oriented individuals who will help strengthen peace, order, and public safety in the community.

The Municipality of Upi remains steadfast in fostering strong partnerships with national government agencies in delivering quality public service and building a safer and more secure community for all.

In line with its commitment to delivering accessible and high-quality public health services, the Upi Drug Testing Laboratory successfully conducted a Remote Collection of Urine Specimens in the Municipality of South Upi on July 27โ€“28, 2026, under the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Local Government Unit of Upi, led by Hon. Mayor Ma. Rona Cristina A. Piang-Flores, and the Local Government Unit of South Upi, headed by Hon. Mayor Helen M. Benito-Padua.

The two-day activity enabled individuals in South Upi to avail themselves of accredited drug testing services within their municipality, making the process more convenient while ensuring full compliance with national standards for specimen collection. The laboratory personnel carried out every stage of the collection with professionalism, accuracy, and strict adherence to quality assurance and confidentiality protocols.

This initiative reflects the strong partnership between the Municipalities of Upi and South Upi in bringing essential government services closer to the people. It also demonstrates the shared commitment of both local government units to promoting public trust, responsible governance, and the development of safer, healthier, and drug-free communities through sustained inter-local collaboration.

The Municipality of Upi has once again demonstrated its commitment to disaster preparedness and community resilience after achieving a 100% passing rate in the 2026 Search for Resilient Barangay, with all 23 barangays successfully meeting the assessment standards.

Of the 23 barangays, nine (9) were recognized as Beyond Compliant, while fourteen (14) were awarded Fully Compliant status, reflecting the collective efforts of barangay officials, volunteers, and partner agencies in strengthening Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) initiatives.

The Search for Resilient Barangay is an annual recognition program that promotes excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA). Barangays that achieved Fully Compliant status will receive a Plaque of Recognition and a โ‚ฑ30,000 incentive, while Beyond Compliant barangays will be awarded a Plaque of Recognition and a โ‚ฑ50,000 incentive.

This milestone highlights the Municipality of Upiโ€™s unwavering commitment to building safer, more prepared, and disaster-resilient communities through the dedicated efforts of its barangays and local leadership.

UPI STRENGTHENS DISASTER RESILIENCE THROUGH PARTNERSHIP RECOGNITION AND MOA SIGNING

The Municipality of Upi, through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, recognized the invaluable contributions of its partner stakeholders during the Culmination Program of the National Disaster Resilience Month held on July 31, 2026.

Plaques of Appreciation were presented to the Bangsamoro Ministries, Officies and Agencies, local government offices, humanitarian organizations, civil society organizations, private institutions, volunteers, and individuals in recognition of their unwavering support and commitment to advancing disaster resilience in the Municipality of Upi.

The program also highlighted the Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Municipality of Upi and its partner stakeholders. The agreement formalizes their shared commitment to provide coordinated support and essential services before, during, and after disasters, further strengthening the municipalityโ€™s disaster preparedness and response efforts.

The activity was graced by Municipal Mayor Hon. Ma. Rona Cristina A. Piang-Flores, Vice Mayor Hon. Abdila D. Alabat, and Dr. Ibrahim A. Embing, Al-Haj, Schools Division Superintendent of Maguindanao del Norte, whose presence underscored the importance of collaboration and partnership in building safer and more resilient communities.
