Internal Evaluators’ Training: Strengthening Training Through Objective Evaluation

Effective military training depends not only on proper instruction but also on objective evaluation, accurate assessment, and continuous improvement. Internal evaluators play an important role in ensuring that Philippine Army training programs meet prescribed standards and remain responsive to operational requirements.

On 17 August 2026, the Artillery Training School (ATS) formally concluded the Internal Evaluators’ Training Class 01-2026, a two-week course designed to develop competent personnel capable of evaluating individual and collective training programs in accordance with the AFPETES Manual S-2018.

The Closing Ceremony was graced by COL ARCHIE A ARES GSC (ART) PA, Chief of Staff, Artillery Regiment, Philippine Army. In his message, he emphasized the importance of objectivity, fairness, professionalism, and continuous improvement in the conduct of training evaluations. He reminded the graduates that evaluation should serve as a means of identifying areas for improvement, strengthening training systems, and ultimately enhancing unit readiness.

As the graduates return to their respective units, they carry with them the responsibility of applying evaluation standards with integrity and sound judgment while contributing to the continued development of Army training.

⚡ Igniting Camaraderie and Team Spirit: ATS Sportsfest Strengthens Trainee Cohesion

The Artillery Training School (ATS) conducted a Sportsfest Activity for the Artillery Mechanic Training Class 01-2026 and Internal Evaluators’ Training Class 01-2026 on 12 August 2026 at Headquarters ATS, Artillery Regiment, Philippine Army, Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija. The activity was graced by MAJ CHRISTIAN J DELOS SANTOS (ART) PA, Executive Officer, Maintenance and Service Battalion, Artillery Regiment, Philippine Army.

Providing a welcome break from the demands of military training, the Sportsfest brought trainees and instructors together in an atmosphere of healthy competition, teamwork, and camaraderie. More than a physical fitness activity, it served as an opportunity to strengthen the trust, discipline, and cooperation essential to effective teamwork.

In his message, MAJ DELOS SANTOS emphasized the importance of physical endurance, mental resilience, and unit cohesion in developing capable military professionals. He reminded the trainees that the teamwork and mutual respect built through sports also contribute to operational readiness, where trust and cooperation are vital to accomplishing the mission.

Through the activity, the trainees demonstrated sportsmanship, perseverance, and teamwork—qualities that complement the technical competencies they continue to develop as future artillery mechanics and internal evaluators.

The Sportsfest reinforced that readiness is built not only through knowledge and skills but also through strong teams capable of working together toward a common purpose.

Artillery Mechanics: Sustaining the Firepower of the King of Battle

Every effective artillery mission depends not only on the gunners who operate the weapon systems, but also on the skilled personnel who keep them serviceable, safe, and mission-ready.

On 14 August 2026, the Artillery Training School (ATS) marked the completion of Artillery Mechanic Training Class 01-2026, recognizing another batch of trained personnel prepared to take on the vital responsibility of maintaining the Philippine Army’s artillery systems.

Gracing the Closing Ceremony was LTC MERSAN N PUHAYON OS (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer, 1st Forward Service Support Unit, Support Command, Philippine Army. Addressing the graduates, he underscored that the reliability of every howitzer rests heavily on the competence and dedication of the mechanics working behind it.

LTC PUHAYON reminded the class that their profession demands far more than the ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment. It requires discipline in conducting Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS), precision in bore swabbing and the assembly and disassembly of components, and strict adherence to technical manuals and prescribed procedures. In artillery maintenance, attention to detail can mean the difference between equipment failure and mission success.

More importantly, he emphasized that maintaining artillery systems is also a responsibility to the soldiers who operate them. Proper maintenance protects personnel, preserves the serviceability of weapon systems, and ensures that artillery units can deliver effective fire support whenever called upon.

With the completion of their training, the graduates now return to their respective units carrying a greater responsibility: to translate what they have learned into dependable maintenance practices that directly contribute to operational readiness.

Artillery Leadership Inspires Trainees to Pursue Excellence

The Artillery Training School (ATS) conducted a Donning of Ranks Ceremony for newly promoted personnel, followed by the Regiment Commander’s Time for the Artillery Mechanic Training Class 01-2026 and Internal Evaluators Training Class 01-2026 on 10 August 2026 at the ATS Classroom, Artillery Regiment, Philippine Army, Fort Ramon Magsaysay, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija.

BGEN HUBERT S ACIERTO PA, Commander, Artillery Regiment, Philippine Army, served as the Presiding General Officer during the ceremony for Cpl Christel E Bernado 999954 (Inf) PA, who received a special readjustment of rank in recognition of being a Licensed Professional Teacher.

During the Regiment Commander’s Time, BGEN ACIERTO shared practical insights anchored on initiative, professionalism, discipline, continuous learning, and personal development. He encouraged the trainees and personnel to prepare themselves for future leadership responsibilities, contribute to a positive and productive workplace, maintain their physical well-being, and strengthen their faith and values as foundations for meaningful service.

The interaction also provided the trainees an opportunity to engage directly with the Regiment Commander and gain perspectives beyond their technical training. His emphasis on professional growth and personal responsibility reinforced the importance of developing not only competent artillery personnel, but also disciplined and values-driven leaders prepared to take on greater responsibilities in the organization.

Through activities such as the Regiment Commander’s Time, ATS continues to complement technical instruction with leadership development, professional mentorship, and character formation—helping shape confident, capable, and professional Artillerymen committed to excellence and service.

Fires School Students Gain Insights into Modern Artillery Training at ATS

The Artillery Training School (ATS), Artillery Regiment, Philippine Army, hosted students from the Fires School during an educational tour at Headquarters ATS, Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija, on 24 July 2026.
The visiting delegation comprised students of the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course (FAOBC) Class 11-2026, Field Artillery Non-Commissioned Officer Basic Course (FANCOBC) Class 114-2026, and Field Artillery Non-Commissioned Officer Advanced Course (FANCOAC) Class 70-2026.

The activity provided them with an opportunity to learn about ATS’s training systems, instructional approaches, and role in developing capable Field Artillery personnel.
During his engagement with the students, COL JF SPERRI G GOTICO ART (MNSA) PA, Commandant, ATS, emphasized the importance of intelligence, sound judgment, technical proficiency, and mastery of artillery principles in accomplishing the mission. He said that effective artillery operations depend not only on equipment but also on the competence and discipline of the personnel employing it.

Addressing the different courses, COL GOTICO challenged the FAOBC students to strengthen their command of both the fundamental and technical aspects of artillery as future unit leaders. He encouraged them to sharpen their leadership, accuracy, and troop management skills in preparation for their responsibilities as Platoon Sergeants. The FANCOBC students, meanwhile, were reminded to build a strong foundation in artillery knowledge and continuously develop the skills expected of Field Artillery professionals.

A key feature of the tour was the demonstration of the Joint Fires Expeditionary Classroom (JFEC), a portable simulation-based training system used to enhance the competencies of Forward Observers in fire support operations. LTC ENSTIEN L DE LA CRUZ (ART) PA, Assistant Commandant, ATS, explained how the system provides a realistic and controlled environment for developing skills in target acquisition, fire mission procedures, and the adjustment of artillery fire.

The educational tour gave the students a closer look at the application of modern training technology in artillery education. It also reinforced the importance of technical mastery, leadership, and continuous learning in preparing Field Artillery personnel for the demands of current and future operations.

Through the activity, ATS demonstrated its continuing commitment to producing competent, disciplined, and mission-ready artillery professionals through relevant, technology-enabled, and competency-based training.

ATS Strengthens Leadership and Technical Excellence

The Artillery Training School (ATS) concluded the Platoon Sergeant Training Class 01-2026 and opened the Artillery Mechanic Training Class 01-2026 during a joint ceremony on 06 July 2026 at the ATS Classroom.

COL ALLAN J TABUDLO INF (GSC) PA, Deputy Brigade Commander of the 502nd Infantry Brigade, 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, served as Guest of Honor and Speaker. He emphasized that trust and respect are earned through discipline, technical competence, and leadership by example.

He encouraged the graduating platoon sergeants to continuously coach and mentor their subordinates to develop disciplined and capable soldiers. He also underscored the vital role of artillery mechanics in ensuring the safe, reliable, and serviceable condition of howitzers, reminding the trainees that technical errors may affect both weapon systems and personnel.

The completion of the two-week Platoon Sergeant Training and the opening of the four-week Artillery Mechanic Training reflect ATS’s continued commitment to developing competent leaders and technically proficient personnel who contribute to the operational readiness of the Artillery Regiment and the Philippine Army.

ATS Earns 99.53% Level IV Rating, Sustains Center of Excellence Status

The Artillery Training School (ATS) earned an outstanding overall rating of 99.53% during the Philippine Army Training Schools and Institutions (PATSIs) Evaluation conducted from 13 to 17 July 2026 by the Philippine Army Evaluation Team headed by COL MELANIO E SOMERA INF (MNSA) PA.

The rating placed ATS under Level IV Classification and reaffirmed its status as a Center of Excellence. The achievement recognizes the school as a Specialized Military Education and Training Institution that consistently upholds high standards in military education, training, research, and technical assistance.

BGEN HUBERT S ACIERTO PA, Regiment Commander, Artillery Regiment, Philippine Army, expressed his appreciation to the evaluation team for the professional conduct of the assessment. He also congratulated the ATS officers and enlisted personnel, under the leadership of COL JF SPERRI G GOTICO ART (MNSA) PA, Commandant, for their collective effort and commitment to excellence.

The accomplishment reflects the dedication and professionalism of ATS personnel in sustaining high standards in training, leadership, resource management, and student development. ATS Holds Sportsfest for Platoon Sergeant Training Class 01-2026

The Artillery Training School (ATS) held a Sportsfest for the Platoon Sergeant Training Class 01-2026 on 10 July 2026 at the ATS Grounds.

The activity aimed to promote teamwork, camaraderie, physical fitness, and esprit de corps among the students through basketball, volleyball, sack race, tire relay, and Pinoy Henyo.

LTC CANDELARIO M PITOGO (ART) PA, Deputy G8, Artillery Regiment, Philippine Army, served as the keynote speaker. In his message, he emphasized the important role of platoon sergeants in maintaining discipline, trust, and unit cohesion. He encouraged the students to lead by example, show genuine concern for their soldiers, and remain committed to hard work and professional growth.

The Sportsfest provided the students with an opportunity to strengthen their teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship while preparing for their future responsibilities as platoon sergeants of the Philippine Army.

DRC Calls on Platoon Sergeant Trainees to Lead by Example

The Platoon Sergeant Training Class 01-2026 received valuable guidance and inspiration from COL JOSE NOEL T ROMERO MNSA (ART) PA, Deputy Regiment Commander, Artillery Regiment, during the DRC’s Time conducted on 06 July 2026 at the ATS Classroom.

In his message, COL ROMERO emphasized that a soldier’s reputation is built through integrity, sound judgment, and faithful commitment to the Army’s core values. He reminded the trainees that trust, loyalty, fairness, respect, and initiative must guide their conduct and performance of duty. Drawing lessons from “The Cart,” he emphasized that every soldier plays an important role in mission accomplishment and encouraged the trainees to pursue continuous personal and professional growth, prepare for their future, support their families, and make responsible decisions throughout their military careers.

The activity served as a meaningful reminder that effective artillery leaders are developed not only through technical competence and tactical expertise but also through exemplary character, steadfast discipline, and a strong sense of responsibility. As future platoon sergeants, the trainees were challenged to lead by example, inspire their subordinates, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the service of the nation.

ATS Opens Platoon Sergeant Training Class 01-2026

The Artillery Training School (ATS), under the leadership of COL JF SPERRI G GOTICO ART (MNSA) PA, formally opened the Platoon Sergeant Training Class 01-2026 on 01 July 2026 at the ATS Classroom.

COL AL V DE LOS SANTOS GSC (ART) PA, Chief, Artillery Capability Development Office, Artillery Regiment, Philippine Army, served as the Keynote Speaker during the ceremony.

In his message, COL DE LOS SANTOS emphasized that excellence in combat is built through rigorous training, disciplined leadership, and technical proficiency. Anchoring his message on the Bible, specifically Esther 4:14, he reminded the students that their selection for the course comes with a deeper purpose and a call to serve at a higher level. He further drew from another verse, Proverbs 16:3, encouraging them to commit their efforts to the Lord as they pursue excellence in training and service.

The course aims to strengthen the leadership, tactical competence, and operational readiness of selected Non-Commissioned Officers, preparing them to serve as capable Platoon Sergeants and force multipliers in support of the Philippine Army’s mission.
